Job description

Paradigm is a software company transforming the way that the residential, construction & building product industries operate across the globe. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Software Engineering – Estimate to be part of revolutionizing these industries. We are building the future of how homes are designed, estimated, and built by revolutionizing construction workflows with modern software engineering, agent-assisted systems, and mobile-first experiences. We are powered by our parent company, Builders FirstSource (NYSE: BLDR): a Fortune 300 company with over $23 billion in revenue and more than 29,000 employees across 550+ locations, BFS is redefining construction through data, digital infrastructure, and AI-powered innovation.

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering – Estimate to lead teams building estimation systems for residential construction. This role blends modern software engineering with intelligent automation to create user experiences where AI agents collaborate with construction professionals on plan interpretation, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimation.

You will lead the collaborative development of a sustainable, scalable technical strategy while driving team performance through engineering best practices. In this role, you’ll work closely with developers, product analysts, product managers, and QA in an agile environment.

You’ll guide engineering teams in building scalable, composable systems that support agent-assisted workflows, delivering speed, accuracy, and efficiency to estimators in the field. Success in this role means guiding your teams in delivering production-grade platforms where human expertise is enhanced by intelligent automation, resulting in measurable improvements to how construction projects are estimated and delivered.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and inspire full-stack engineering teams building the Paradigm Estimate product using React and TypeScript, creating intuitive interfaces for our digitization application.

  • Be seen as an expert within the technical components of the product and guide architecture decisions at the team and product level.

  • Assist in all aspects of the Agile Scrum process, ensuring managers run effective stand-ups, grooming and refinement discussions, and facilitating decision making across teams to deliver smooth, quality releases.

  • Define, scale, and optimize processes that improve the quality, delivery, and overall effectiveness of the teams you lead.

  • Collaborate closely with product and design teams to translate construction professional needs into elegant, user-centric interfaces that balance power with simplicity.

  • Uphold and reinforce engineering standards, including coding practices, design guidelines, and review quality, by setting expectations across teams and enabling managers to maintain consistency.

  • Drive end to end delivery of complex products and features, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timelines, and quality standards.

  • Manage the team’s long term technical roadmap, ensuring systems can scale and evolve.

  • Step in hands-on when needed to support architecture reviews, evaluate complex technical decisions, and guide teams through challenges involving performance optimization, scalability, documentation quality, and testing expectations.

  • Champion user-centric thinking for construction professionals; measure your teams’ success through adoption, performance metrics, user satisfaction, and workflow efficiency.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equal amount of related professional experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in software development with 3+ years of experience in people management. Experience leading a full-stack team building enterprise-grade web applications with strong execution, resilience, and business impact is preferred.

  • Desire to integrate workflow automation into engineering processes.

  • Deep proficiency in cloud platforms (Azure), including microservices, serverless patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.

  • Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as .NET, Node.js, or similar stacks, including REST and event-driven architectures.

  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale, distributed, or cloud-based systems.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical topics to non-technical stakeholders, influence their decision making, and challenge the status quo when necessary.

  • Adaptability and resilience, including the capacity to navigate changing priorities, manage ambiguity, and help teams adjust to evolving business needs in a dynamic environment.

Beneficial Knowledge and Skills:

  • Domain expertise in construction, building products, or field service applications with an understanding of how construction professionals work and the workflows they depend on.

  • Hands-on experience with modern real-time collaboration or document automation platforms, such as Liveblocks.

  • Experience with agentic automation platforms such as n8n, Orkes, and Moveworks.
