How much do temp cloud engineer jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for temp cloud engineer in the United States is $62.89, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $53.61 and $71.63 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temp cloud engineer, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Temp Cloud Engineer, you need expertise in cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), networking, and scripting or programming, usually backed by a relevant degree or certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud monitoring systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication set standout candidates apart in this fast-evolving field. These abilities are crucial for quickly deploying reliable cloud solutions and collaborating efficiently on short-term projects.

What are some typical projects or tasks a temp cloud engineer might work on during a short-term assignment?

As a Temp Cloud Engineer, you may be brought in to support cloud migration projects, set up or optimize cloud infrastructure, automate deployment pipelines, or troubleshoot cloud service issues. Temporary assignments often involve working closely with permanent team members to address urgent needs or fill skill gaps, so you'll likely collaborate with DevOps, security, and development teams. Flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to new environments are essential, as projects can vary widely depending on the organization's current priorities.

What is the difference between Temp Cloud Engineer vs Cloud Support Specialist?

AspectTemp Cloud EngineerCloud Support Specialist

Employer & Industry UsageIT firms, cloud service providers, tech companiesManaged service providers, cloud vendors, enterprise IT
Search & Comparison IntentProject roles, technical tasks, temporary cloud projectsSupport tasks, troubleshooting, client assistance

The Temp Cloud Engineer typically focuses on implementing and managing cloud infrastructure projects temporarily, requiring technical certifications and hands-on skills. In contrast, a Cloud Support Specialist primarily provides ongoing support and troubleshooting for cloud services. Both roles are common in tech industries but differ in scope and daily responsibilities.

What is a temp cloud engineer?

Temp Cloud Engineers are IT professionals hired on a temporary basis to design, implement, and manage cloud-based systems and infrastructure for organizations. They typically work with platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud to help companies migrate data, optimize cloud resources, or address specific project needs. These roles are often project-based or used to cover staff shortages, requiring strong technical skills and adaptability. Temp Cloud Engineers may also provide troubleshooting, security, and maintenance services during their contract period.

Can I become a Temp Cloud Engineer in 3 months?

Becoming a Temp Cloud Engineer in three months is challenging because the role typically requires foundational knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with skills in scripting, networking, and security. While intensive training or bootcamps can accelerate learning, gaining sufficient experience and certifications usually takes longer than three months for most candidates.

Are Temp Cloud Engineers still in demand?

Temp Cloud Engineers are still in demand as organizations continue to adopt cloud technologies like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Skills in cloud architecture, automation, and certifications can enhance job prospects in temporary or contract roles within the cloud engineering field.

Zions Bancorporation's Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. With a commitment to technology and innovation, we have been providing our community, clients and colleagues the best experience possible for over 150 years. Help us transform our workforce of the future, today.

Zions Bancorporation is seeking a Cloud Engineer with Cloud Infrastructure and Security skills for an excellent opportunity within our Cloud Enablement Team. This Cloud Engineer will establish Google Cloud foundations while on-boarding native cloud services to meet infrastructure and project specifications and needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and optimize cloud environments for reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Define and implement platform enablement strategies, reusable patterns, and automation frameworks.
  • Establish and enforce cloud governance, security controls, and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering continuous improvement.
  • Lead resolution of complex platform issues, including root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
  • Align cloud platform capabilities with business and product goals through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Build and manage a platform that empowers engineering teams, including data scientists and ML engineers, to deploy and scale their applications and models efficiently.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption of cloud engineering best practices.
  • Develop onboarding materials, technical documentation, and training resources for platform users.

Qualifications:

  • Some experience in cloud engineering, with a strong background in architecting and operating cloud environments at-scale.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture, services, and security, with a proven track record of successful implementations.
  • Expert-level understanding of Terraform and related automation tools; experience with Ansible and Git.
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical initiatives, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Solid experience in DevSecOps, zero-touch automation, CI/CD Pipelines and shift-left security practices.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, security principles, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills for automation and tooling.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field. A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.

Visa Sponsorship:

This position is currently not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes, for example, situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H-1B visa sponsorship within a few years of employment in order to maintain employment eligibility.
