Job Description Overview
  • Job Title: Cloud Engineer (Mid-Level Platform Engineer)
  • Agency: NYS Department of Financial Services (DFS)
  • Location: Albany, NY (50% Remote / Hybrid)
  • Engagement Duration: 30 Months (Full-Time)
  • Target Start Date: October 2, 2026
Role Summary
The Mid-Level Platform Engineer will work on the DFS Platform Services team under senior guidance to build, operate, and maintain internal infrastructure. The position focuses on automating infrastructure, managing CI/CD pipelines, and driving software delivery reliability.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support developer delivery workflows.
  • Author and maintain Terraform code for Google Cloud Platform infrastructure provisioning.
  • Support existing Salesforce/GearSet deployment pipelines (troubleshooting and documentation).
  • Maintain SonarQube and GitHub integration for security scanning and static code analysis.
  • Manage build artifacts in Google Cloud Platform Artifact Registry and handle compute, networking, IAM, and secret resources across environments.
  • Support observability, logging, and monitoring via Splunk.
  • Support Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) cluster operations, workload deployments, and namespace management.
  • Migrate manually provisioned Google Cloud Platform resources into Terraform.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and sprint deliveries.
Technical Stack
  • Cloud & Containers: Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Build, Artifact Registry, Secret Manager), Docker, Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD: Terraform, GitHub Actions, GearSet (Salesforce), Cloud Build

Qualifications & Experience
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: 60+ months in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or sysadmin (min. 2 years in public cloud; Google Cloud Platform preferred).
  • Google Cloud Platform & Terraform: 36+ months experience using Google Cloud Platform core services and 36+ months reading/writing Terraform.
  • CI/CD & Git: 36+ months building CI/CD pipelines and using Git workflows.
  • Agile: 24+ months in an Agile delivery environment.
  • Observability & Code Analysis: 12+ months with Splunk and 12+ months with static code analysis tools (SonarQube).
  • Education & Certifications (Preferred): Bachelor’s Degree, Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer, or HashiCorp Certified Terraform Associate
