Process Support Engineer / Deviation Management Specialist

    We are seeking a Process Support Engineer for a contract/temporary opportunity in Durham, NC, supporting regulated manufacturing operations in the medical devices and supplies industry. This role is ideal for an engineering or scientific professional with hands-on experience in cGMP environments, deviation investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA, and manufacturing process support.
    The Process Support Engineer will work closely with manufacturing, quality, engineering, technical services, testing, planning, and release teams to resolve production issues, improve process performance, and maintain product quality. This opportunity offers exposure to cross-functional problem solving in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment with supportive leadership, strong teamwork, and meaningful work tied to patient and product safety.
    Key Responsibilities
    - Support daily regulated manufacturing operations by troubleshooting process issues and identifying practical solutions.
    - Investigate manufacturing deviations, atypical events, and production issues in alignment with cGMP requirements.
    - Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurrence and improve process reliability.
    - Write clear, accurate, and compliant technical investigation reports and deviation documentation.
    - Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Technical Services, Testing, Planning, and Release teams to support product quality and operational continuity.
    - Support continuous improvement initiatives using scientific, engineering, and Lean Six Sigma principles.
    Required Qualifications and Skills
    - Support manufacturing deviation investigations and technical troubleshooting activities.
    - Perform root cause analysis and develop CAPA recommendations.
    - Write technical investigation reports in a cGMP-regulated environment.
    - Partner with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing processes and maintain compliance.
    - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific field.
    - 3-5 years of experience in process support, manufacturing engineering, technical operations, quality investigations, or a related regulated manufacturing role.
    - Experience working in a cGMP-regulated pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or similar manufacturing environment.
    - Knowledge of deviation management, CAPA, root cause analysis, and investigation documentation.
    - Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
    - Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
    - Ability to communicate effectively with manufacturing, quality, engineering, and technical teams.
    - Ability to occasionally support off-shift activities when required.
    Preferred Qualifications
    - Internship, co-op, or early career experience combined with industry experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device manufacturing.
    - Experience in roles such as Manufacturing Support Specialist, Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Technical Services Specialist, Technical Operations Specialist, Quality Investigation Specialist, CAPA Specialist, or Production Support Engineer.
    - Experience applying scientific and engineering principles to resolve production issues in a regulated environment.
    - Familiarity with quality systems, product release processes, testing coordination, or manufacturing support documentation.
