Provides health care to individuals and families, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. They may care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly as noted in age-related category and area of expertise.Education Qualifications:

NP/PA – Addiction Medicine – Casual

Essentia Health is seeking an NP/PA to join our Addiction Medicine Consult Services team. This role supports patients with substance use disorders across Duluth and a growing regional network of urban and rural communities. The team is open to candidates who live in or near Duluth, MN and can work in person, as well as candidates outside the Duluth area who are interested in providing services remotely through telehealth.

Essentia Health Addiction Medicine Consult Services

  • Bedside consults at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Essentia Health Duluth for candidates working in person in Duluth.
  • Telehealth inpatient consultations across regional Essentia Health sites.
  • Currently provide telehealth visits to Deer River, Moose Lake, Northern Pines, Sandstone, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, St. Mary’s Superior, Virginia, and Detroit Lakes.
  • The team is actively expanding services to provide telehealth visits to additional communities throughout North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota.
  • Evaluations and follow-up care related to substance use disorders in inpatient settings.
  • Care of patients may include management of a substance use disorder, treatment options, initiation and management of pharmacotherapies, acute or chronic pain control, perioperative management of medications, questions about substance use disorder management, guidance on safe disposition planning, and establishing outpatient follow-up.
  • Commitment to education and collaboration with medical students, residents, and other healthcare learners, with opportunities to participate in teaching and mentorship.

Work Location and Practice Model

This role offers flexibility based on candidate location and team needs.

  • Duluth-Based Candidates:
  • May provide in-person bedside consults at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Essentia Health Duluth, along with telehealth support to regional sites.
  • St. Mary’s Medical Center, the region’s tertiary referral center with adult and pediatric subspecialties; a 330-bed hospital and Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
  • Excellent behavioral health resources including psychiatry consult service, social work, case management, and drug and alcohol counselors
  • Candidates Outside Duluth:
  • May be considered for remote telehealth/teleconsultation work supporting inpatient and emergency department addiction medicine consults across the region.

Requirements

  • APRN, NP, or PA certified in Addiction Medicine or completion of Addiction Medicine training.
  • Excellent team player. Must work well with physicians, other consultants, patients, and small teams.
  • Strong commitment to caring for patients both in Duluth and regionally.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education and working with medical students and other healthcare trainees.
  • Interest in contributing to the development of future healthcare professionals through teaching, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

NP:

Current licensure as a registered nurse in appropriate state.
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in appropriate state.
Current certification in CPR.
National certification in applicable area.
Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice

PA:

Current licensure as a physician assistant in appropriate state.
Current certification in CPR.
National certification.
Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice
