Job description

Electrical Project Manager - Engineering Office (Orange/Riverside County Area)
Job Summary:
The Electrical Project Manager is responsible for managing electrical and technology system projects for K-12 and higher education facilities, overseeing project execution from design through construction. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven project management experience, and in-depth knowledge of Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements, including plan submissions, approvals, and coordination with regulatory agencies. This position collaborates closely with internal design teams, clients, and external stakeholders to deliver compliant, high-quality projects on schedule and within budget.
General Duties:
  • Lead electrical and technology project designs for K-12 and other public facility projects from preliminary design and master planning through construction and project close out.
  • Prepare detailed electrical engineering drawings, specifications and load calculations including familiarity with construction methods for review electrical/technology systems cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with architectural and other disciplines to ensure integration of systems and electrical requirements of other trades.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of fire life safety systems, including alarm and communication systems, in accordance with California Building Codes and NFPA standards.
  • Design and coordinate low voltage systems including data/telecom, security, audio/visual, clock/bell/intercom, and access control systems.
  • Prepare and manage DSA submittals, responses, and approvals; ensure all documentation complies with DSA requirements.
  • Perform initial field and site observations in assessing existing conditions and periodic construction administration site visits and meetings providing summary reports.
  • Interface directly with internal team members, clients, school districts, other project consultants and regulatory agencies for project development, engineering plan and specifications approvals and maintain existing business relationships.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing quality control reviews of documents, including instruction and any corrective measures.

Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes: California Electrical Code (CEC), Title 24, NFPA, and other related standards.
  • Experience with low voltage and life safety systems design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Project Management certification.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in electrical engineering design, with at least 5 years in K-12 public school projects.
  • 6 solid years of Project Management experience
  • In-depth understanding of Division of the State Architect (DSA) processes, including design and documentation protocols.
  • Local residency or familiarity with the Orange County and Riverside County regions.
  • Experience with LEED or CHPS documentation and sustainable design practices is a plus.

Travel: Up to 20%
The expected base salary range for this role is $100,000-$130,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
