Job description

Job Title: Data Network Telecom Technician
Location: Phoenix, AZ (100% Onsite)
Type: Contract-to-Hire (Staff Augmentation)
Duration: 6 Months (Potential for FTE Conversion)
Position Overview
The Technical Services Division (TSD) of the Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking a skilled Data Network Telecom Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of critical digital computer systems, peripheral equipment, and telecommunications cabling. This position requires a hands-on technician capable of coordinating with vendors and internal units to ensure seamless network operations across various DPS sites.
Key Responsibilities
  • Installation & Maintenance: Install, remove, and repair various mobile, portable, and hand-held communications equipment, as well as routers, switches, video equipment, and security systems (cameras, alarms, and gate controls).
  • Cabling & Wiring: Expertly install, repair, splice, test, and terminate copper, fiber, and coax cabling to ensure proper impedance matching and connectivity.
  • Project Coordination: Schedule and oversee repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance with contractors and vendors.
  • Site Support: Supervise vendor resources and manage inventory for all DPS-related network equipment and supported governmental agencies.
  • System Upgrades: Initiate and complete upgrade projects for network equipment at designated sites.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of four (4) years of Cable Technician experience in the installation/maintenance of digital computer systems and peripheral equipment OR telephone station equipment.
    • ORย two (2) years of experience specifically as a Lead Cable Technician.
  • Location: Must be Local to Phoenix, AZ at the time of application.
  • Work Authorization: Must be eligible for FTE conversion without visa sponsorship.
  • Compliance: Ability to pass a background check and drug screening via HireRight.
Preferred Skills & Education
  • Certifications: Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or BICSI certification is highly preferred.
  • Education: Technical training or a degree in electronics, telecommunications, or digital computer systems may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.
Work Schedule & Environment
  • Shift: Day Shift (Standard Business Hours).
  • Onsite: 100% onsite at 2010 W. Encanto Blvd, Phoenix, AZ.
  • Availability: Candidates must be available for in-person interviews within one week of the posting close date and able to start within two weeks of an offer.
