Accounting Specialist

VACATION STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

$42,000-$47,000 annually

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the CFO, the Jewish Educational Alliance and Savannah Jewish Federation

are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support the daily

accounting and financial recordkeeping needs of our multifaceted nonprofit organization.

This position processes financial transactions, maintains accurate records, reconciles

assigned accounts, and assists with general accounting operations.

The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, comfortable working independently, and

enthusiastic about contributing to a diverse, community-focused nonprofit organization.

The position is full-time and in-person, based at the JEA campus in Savannah, GA.

Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required during audit periods, special

financial cycles and/or large community events.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

 Process monthly bank drafts.

 Create and maintain online payment forms.

 Download, review, and post daily deposits.

 Investigate unusual or improperly processed payments and resolve

discrepancies.

 Prepare quarterly pledge statements.

 Reconcile assigned bank and general ledger accounts monthly.

 Maintain accurate supporting documentation for financial transactions.

 Manage petty cash distributions, documentation, and replenishment.

 Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.

 Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.

 Assist with month-end closing activities and financial reporting as assigned.

 Respond to accounting questions from staff and provide supporting

documentation when needed.

 Perform other bookkeeping and accounting duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

 Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related

field preferred; equivalent relevant work experience will be considered.

 Previous bookkeeping, accounting, or financial recordkeeping experience.


 Experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

 Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

 Experience with accounting or general ledger software; Fund EZ experience is a

plus.

 Strong organizational and time-management skills.

 Knowledge of basic accounting principles and account-reconciliation procedures.

 Nonprofit or fund-accounting experience is a plus.

materials.
