Job Description:

L3Harris Corporation is seeking a Specialist, Technical Writer to support our Spectrum Superiority Systems portfolio of programs in Palm Bay, Florida by conducting technical writing documentation for complex systems and equipment that are part of mission critical solutions that safeguard our unique customers. These technical writing tasks may include generating, developing, planning, writing and editing operational, instructional, maintenance or procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. The candidate must also possess the ability to create complex technical drawings using a variety of resources to develop the illustrations. The candidate must possess the ability to master the complex technology and associated equipment, and then effectively deliver that knowledge to customer teams in written and illustrated form. Candidate also must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus on a complex task.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and deliver complex illustrations for technical documentation and other media using various illustration tools (e.g., Visio, Illustrator, AutoCAD).
  • Develop, organize, and deliver technical information as user guides, training materials, and/or installation manuals for non-technical and technical users in structured (FrameMaker, CSS, DITA, HTML) and unstructured (Word, PPT) environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately and be comfortable asking questions to ensure accuracy.
  • Regularly review documentation to update procedures as required by the program to ensure relevant and current operations.
  • Work closely with the program, engineering, and test teams to ensure user feedback and scenarios are communicated and represented in documentation development.
  • Collaborate with cross functional engineering teams to develop and enhance technical documentation and training material to be delivered to employees and customers alike
  • Interpret, Statement of Work (SOW), and program requirements related to program publications, training, and maintainer certifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage complex projects

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field and minimum 4 years of relevant prior experience, or a Graduate Degree in related field and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Significant Technical Writing experience in developing installation, operations, and maintenance manuals for complex systems. Experience in writing system level test procedures for LRUs and Rack assemblies.
  • Training curriculum development experience. Ability to generate and update technical instructional material
  • Develop, organize, and deliver/present technical training products and related materials for customer training.
  • Familiar with MIL-STD-40051 and able to format COTS manuals to this standard
  • Comfortable with creating documentation in Confluence, FrameMaker, etc.
  • Experience working with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
  • Experience creating companion information such as illustrations using photography or illustration software (Photoshop) or flowcharts/graphs using Visio
  • Have ability to obtain U.S. DoD Secret Clearance
