This role serves as the primary owner of fleet health and uptime while providing advanced technical support for specialized rail inspection equipment and onboard technologies. You will act as the technical bridge between Operations, Engineering, Aftermarket Services, and customers to resolve equipment issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance overall fleet performance. Through proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support, you will help ensure safe, efficient, and compliant rail inspection operations.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Experience analyzing operational or maintenance data to improve equipment reliability and performance.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience utilizing ERP, maintenance management, or fleet management systems.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements, including Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.

  • Working knowledge of rail flaw detection and NDT methodologies preferred.

  • Experience supporting ultrasonic inspection systems preferred.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • High degree of accountability and ownership.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.

  • Maintain fleet uptime, reliability, and operational readiness across rail inspection assets.

  • Manage preventive maintenance programs and coordinate inspections, repairs, and equipment upgrades.

  • Maintain fleet records, registrations, certifications, and compliance documentation.

  • Analyze operational and maintenance data to identify trends and improve fleet reliability.

  • Manage relationships with service providers, repair facilities, and equipment vendors.

  • Develop strategies to improve equipment reliability, reduce operating costs, and increase fleet utilization.

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for custom-built rail inspection vehicles and onboard systems.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, computer, and network-related equipment issues.

  • Support field personnel in diagnosing and resolving equipment failures.

  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for recurring issues.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Support the operation and troubleshooting of ultrasonic inspection systems and related technologies.

  • Assist with investigations involving data quality, inspection integrity, and system performance.

  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and professionalism.

  • Support railroad operating rules, safety standards, customer initiatives, and training activities.

  • Provide on-call technical support as required.

  • Travel up to 15% as needed to support fleet operations, customer requirements, and technical initiatives.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Work is primarily light duty and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

  • May occasionally be required to work in field environments, maintenance facilities, rail yards, or around operating rail equipment while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
