Job description

Dayton 24/7 Now is looking for a motivated Part-time Evening Newscast Director to join our newsroom. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to break into broadcast television and learn the technical side of producing newscasts.

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a desire to grow in a fast-paced newsroom. The ideal candidate is a team player who takes direction well, stays calm under pressure, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment where every day is different.

Responsibilities

  • Direct live and recorded segments during evening newscasts, including weather segments and, when assigned, full live newscasts.
  • Work closely with producers, anchors, meteorologists, reporters, and other newsroom staff to execute high-quality broadcasts.
  • Assist with studio production and technical operations as needed.
  • Learn and operate newsroom production systems while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Help ensure broadcasts are executed smoothly, professionally, and on deadline.
  • Perform other production-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in broadcast television production.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to follow direction while remaining adaptable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new technology and production techniques.
  • Previous directing experience is not required-we're willing to train the right candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SAGA newsroom systems.
  • Familiarity with MIMIR media management.
  • Non-linear editing experience (Adobe Premiere or similar) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in television production, college media, or live event production is helpful but not required.
