The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for maintaining, planning, and growing sales of microbial control programs (Blitzโ„ข, Spectrumโ„ข, and related products) across beef, swine, and poultry processing plants. The role relies heavily on sales and technical service expertise, strong operations knowledge, and relationship-building skills. It also involves identifying and developing business opportunities within the broader meat processing industry while supporting customers with consistent service, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.
The ideal candidate resides in or around Virginia, Delaware and North Carolina.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a high level of customer service through regular service visits, sales visits, calls, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Manage assigned accounts and serve as the primary point of contact for customer relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with sales managers, service managers, the protein team, and internal/external partners to meet product line growth, retention, and profitability goals.
  • Independently schedule service and sales visits based on customer priority and opportunities.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key decision-makers at customer sites (e.g., plant managers, food safety managers, purchasing, R&D, and quality teams).
  • Develop detailed knowledge of customer operations, history, competitive landscape, and potential opportunities; communicate insights internally for growth and maintenance.
  • Document sales activities, prospecting, and account management tasks using Evonik CSM systems.
  • Assist with forecasting functions and support new sales opportunities across the territory.
  • Promote and practice safe work habits in alignment with Evonik's global health, safety, security, and environmental standards.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
  • 2-5 years of sales, technical service, or management experience in the poultry or allied protein industry preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience working within slaughter or further processing plant environments for beef, swine, and/or poultry.
  • Strong business and sales acumen, including strategic planning, forecasting, and understanding of profitability.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships and understand protein industry account needs.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively from a home-based environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours for troubleshooting or system start-ups.

Summary Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. (Specific rate to be determined, but not limited to, geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
Pay Range: $74,900 - $124,800
