Technical Project Program Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical project program manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Project Program Manager, you need strong project management skills, technical acumen, and experience with methodologies like Agile or Waterfall, often supported by a relevant degree and certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master. Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, MS Project) and enterprise systems is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills help navigate cross-functional teams and complex projects. These competencies are crucial for delivering projects on time, aligning technical solutions with business goals, and driving organizational success.

How does a technical project program manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project lifecycle?

Technical Project Program Managers often act as a bridge between engineering, product, design, and business teams. They facilitate communication by organizing regular sync meetings, tracking progress, and clarifying project requirements. This ensures that all stakeholders are aligned on goals, timelines, and deliverables. Successful collaboration relies on strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate technical details for non-technical teams while managing dependencies and addressing potential roadblocks promptly.

What is a technical project program manager?

Their role often involves risk management, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving to keep projects on track. Unlike traditional project managers, they typically possess strong technical backgrounds and work closely with engineering, IT, or development teams. Enterprise Technology plays a critical part in shaping the future of mobility. If you're looking for the chance to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, enhance the customer experience and improve people's lives, this is the opportunity for you. Join us and challenge your IT expertise and analytical skills to help create vehicles that are as smart as you are.
In this position...
As a Technical Program Manager within Global Product Creation, you will play a key role in the execution and delivery of high-impact transformation initiatives, with a specific focus on driving a significant, modernizing transformation in our product definition capabilities.
This role has a truly global scope, supporting diverse vehicle programs around the world that are manufactured across our international plants. Sitting at the intersection of business, technology, and engineering, you will contribute directly to the product group vision and roadmap, helping define tactical plans and execution strategies in alignment with broader digital and industrial goals. You will translate high-level strategy into actionable user stories and technical requirements, partnering closely with engineering, design, and platform teams to coordinate the end-to-end agile delivery, launch, and quality of scalable features while managing day-to-day trade-offs and timelines. Additionally, you will safeguard delivery health by tracking key KPIs, monitoring system and product performance, participating in incident response, managing project budgets, mitigating team-level delivery risks, and identifying opportunities to leverage modern technologies like AI to drive operational efficiency.
Based in Dearborn, MI, this is a hybrid position with a required four-day onsite presence each week. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
  • Contribute to the product group vision and roadmap, helping define tactical plans and execution strategies in alignment with broader digital and industrial goals.
  • Translate high-level strategy into actionable user stories and technical requirements, partnering with engineering and platform teams to build scalable features while managing trade-offs and project timelines.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end agile delivery and launch of features, collaborating closely with engineering, design, and product to ensure quality and timely execution.
  • Identify and track dependencies and integrations across cross-functional teams, helping resolve blockers to ensure smooth, continuous end-to-end value delivery.
  • Gather and analyze internal customer feedback, telemetry, and discovery insights to make informed, data-driven decisions for product improvement.
  • Track key KPIs, monitor system and product health, support operational improvements, and participate in incident response efforts.
  • Build collaborative relationships with business stakeholders and engineering partners, serving as a reliable point of contact to align technical delivery with product requirements.
  • Guide day-to-day execution within a collaborative, customer-centric team environment, promoting agile best practices and peer mentoring.
  • Support resource and project budget tracking, help identify and mitigate team-level delivery risks, and assist in identifying opportunities to leverage modern technologies like AI to drive efficiency

Qualifications
You'll have...
  • Bachelor of Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Programming or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience with coordinating Agile teams, and having a solid understanding of Agile ceremonies, iterative delivery, and change management.
  • 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience with skills including the following:
    • Strong collaboration and peer-mentoring skills, with experience guiding project teams toward common delivery goals.
    • Clear and articulate communicator, comfortable facilitating team-level discussions, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and translating technical progress into clear updates.
    • Ability to build relationships and influence peers in a matrixed environment, proactively resolving execution-level conflicts and bottlenecks.
    • Solid understanding of program management metrics, including resource tracking, scheduling, and project prioritization.
    • Familiarity with Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles and utilizing user feedback loops to prioritize features.
    • Self-motivated coordinator who manages immediate delivery timelines, anticipates project risks, and adapts quickly to changing priorities.

Even better, you may have...
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Automotive Engineering experience
  • Good understanding of Dassault 3DX capabilities and its ecosystem
  • Strong results orientation, helping to drive accountability and structured progress metrics across immediate team deliverables
