JOB SUMMARY
Provides patient care services, cleans, maintains and stocks supplies and equipment and applies the principles of standard precautions and infection control in a variety of settings. The Technical Assistant demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate for the population assigned. The Technical Assistant will receive assignments as delegated by the RN. The Technical Assistant will be able to access data reflective of the patient's status and report the information needed to identify each patient's needs relative to this information. The Technical Assistant will provide care based on established policies and procedures. The Technical Assistant performs clerical, phlebotomy, safety attendant and other duties as assigned within their scope.
Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
  • Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
  • Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.

Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, providers, and all levels of healthcare.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs as prescribed.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members.
  • Resolves conflicts independently as appropriate.

Nursing Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.
  • Administers medication as prescribed by the physician appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to safety measures.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Certification from Virginia Board of Nursing - preferred
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to communicate verbally and in written form.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Phlebotomy and medical terminology.
