Tax Software Engineering Lead

This position is based in Plano, TX.

Who We're Looking For

At Toyota Financial Services (TFS), we are committed to delivering innovative Tax technology solutions that support our business operations and compliance requirements. We are seeking a Tax Software Engineering Lead, a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for managing and supporting a portfolio of critical tax-related applications. In this role, the Engineering lead will manage a portfolio of enterprise tax applications supporting indirect tax, income tax, insurance tax, and tax credit programs. This role requires expertise in tax systems management, application feature development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement.

You will lead the management of both internally developed and commercial off-the-shelf tax applications, ensuring they meet business needs, compliance standards, and security requirements. This role is pivotal in supporting Toyota's tax credit management, sales tax, income tax, and lease tax processes and ensures stable run-the-business (RTB) operations, vendor coordination, risk and compliance alignment, and successful delivery of upcoming tax technology initiatives

Reporting to the D&T's Finance Solutions National Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the department's mission to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable data solutions and services across the TFS enterprise and its global affiliates.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage and support a portfolio of tax applications including but not limited to:

    • Tax Credit Management Systems (TCMS), Collections Tax Management System (CTMS) and Lease Tax Administration Service (LTAS) - internally developed, supporting tax leases and credit application processes.

    • Premium Pro and Premium Pro Status - commercial off-the-shelf systems for insurance tax, running on AWS environments.

    • Sales Tax Exchange Program (STEP) - commercial system active in a few states, with legal considerations in other states.

    • Vertex L and Vertex O - mainframe and cloud-based tax calculation systems, including end-of-life management and integration challenges.

    • Tracker Pro - supporting unreconciled payments/processes with vendor services and VB code maintenance.

  • Collaborate with business partners, technical teams, InfoSec, and vendors to ensure application stability, security, and compliance with Toyota's governance standards.

  • Lead efforts to migrate and upgrade systems, such as transitioning Premium Pro to Premium Pro Status and relaunching Mazda on TCMS.

  • Oversee issue resolution, application enhancements, and support for batch processes, data feeds, and integrations.

  • Partner with AMS teams for post-production support of new internally developed tax platforms.

  • Manage application lifecycle activities including runbooks, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and performance monitoring.

  • Ensure adherence to TFS technology governance, risk assessments, audit readiness, and change management standards.

  • Coordinate with enterprise projects impacting tax applications, providing technical and business analysis support.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce manual work, enhance automation, and improve data accuracy.

  • Integrate AI/ML capabilities, including LLMs, into workflows

  • Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and excellence through mentorship, training, and knowledge sharing.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate promptly, clearly, and effectively with stakeholders, ensuring alignment, transparency, and timely delivery of solutions.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 12+ years of experience in application management, preferably in tax or financial services environments.

  • Strong knowledge of tax-related applications and systems, including both internally developed and commercial off-the-shelf solutions.

  • Familiarity with tax-related business processes, including sales tax, income tax, insurance tax, and tax credits.

  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred), mainframe systems, and integration technologies.

  • Proven ability to manage application development and support teams and collaborate across multiple stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with Information Security requirements, data privacy, and compliance frameworks.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • Excellent communication skills to engage technical and business audiences.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and product lifecycle management.

  • Ability to shape, adapt, and evolve existing frameworks/processes to meet business needs, while resolving technical issues to maintain project momentum.

Added bonus if you have

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, or related field.

  • Experience in Financial Services, Banking, or FinTech environments.

  • Exposure to AI/ML platforms and tools for data enrichment and automation.

  • Experience with tax credit management, sales tax, and income tax processes.

  • Exposure to Salesforce tax calculation integrations.

  • Experience working with vendors such as PwC, Ernst & Young, and Vertex.

  • Understanding of SOX and non-SOX controls in application environments.

  • Familiarity with Web Authentication products (i.e., Centrify, Okta).
