Cherry Bekaert has an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Tax Partner to join our growing practice across the Midwest, ideally in our Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH, Indianapolis, IN, DC Metro, Nashville, TN, or Atlanta, GA office locations.

This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to take ownership of an established client portfolio centered on real estate tax credits and incentives, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Historic Tax Credits (HTC), and Opportunity Zone strategies, while driving future growth across the region.

Role Overview

This Partner will serve as the primary relationship leader and technical authority for a well-established book of tax credits and incentives work, delivered within Cherry Bekaert's broader tax practice. The successful candidate will bring both deep technical fluency and a client-first orientation, sustaining the Firm's existing client relationships while identifying organic growth opportunities across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the trusted advisor and primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients with complex tax credits and incentives needs, including LIHTC, Historic Tax Credits, and Opportunity Zone transactions
  • Lead and review federal and multi-state tax compliance and planning engagements for entities structured around tax credit investments including partnership allocations and investor reporting.
  • Provide strategic counsel on the structuring, underwriting, and ongoing tax compliance requirements of tax credit transactions across a range of project types and ownership structures
  • Cultivate and expand client relationships through active engagement, referral development, and collaboration with other Cherry Bekaert service lines and industry teams
  • Mentor, coach, and develop managers and staff, fostering technical excellence and a high-performing client service team
  • Contribute to the Firm's market presence in the Midwest through thought leadership, community engagement, and targeted business development activity

Qualifications

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Master's degree in Taxation or related field highly preferred
  • Significant experience in real estate tax credits and incentives within a public accounting firm, with demonstrated depth in LIHTC, and familiarity with Historic Tax Credits and/or Opportunity Zone strategies
  • Proven ability to serve as a client relationship leader on complex, multi-party tax credit transactions
  • Experience with pass-through entity taxation (partnerships and S corporations), including compliance and planning for investors, developers, syndicators, and community development entities
  • Established professional network and a demonstrated capacity to sustain and grow client relationships
  • Strong leadership and staff development capabilities, with a genuine commitment to coaching and mentoring
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise sophisticated client stakeholders and collaborate effectively across service lines
