Job Description:  
The Systems Specialist I is responsible for the installation of DDC controls on various components of a new project. This position performs troubleshooting to resolve problems, referring more complex problems to supervisor. This position has the responsibility for small and/or components of larger jobs.
The Systems Specialist II is responsible for installation of systems and service installed jobs, including job start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting. This position handles emergency calls as directed and performs troubleshooting to resolve problems, referring more complex problems to supervisor. This position has the responsibility for larger and/or multiple jobs, additional service work, greater technical skills, and additional customer interaction than the Systems Specialist position.
The Systems Specialist III is responsible for project coordination, job start-up, programming, job commissioning, checkout, graphics and troubleshooting for systems installed jobs. This position handles emergency calls as directed and performs troubleshooting to resolve problems, referring more complex problems to supervisor. This position has the responsibility for multiple jobs, additional service work, greater technical skills, and additional customer interaction than the Systems Specialist II position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   
80% Programs and installs systems and service installed jobs

  • Reads and understands blueprints and general wiring.
  • Pulls wires and mounts devices per engineering design.
  • Learns basic conduit skills, gaining proficiency through on-the-job training.
  • Performs wiring, check and assists in automation systems startups.
  • Coordinates electrical installation with electrical contractor on the jobsite as directed.
  • Makes recommendations to superior regarding changes, improvements or installation of automation system on basis of own findings in the course of assignment.
  • Completes and submits written reports covering all aspects of each assignment, including customer, nature of trouble, equipment involved, time and material used, travel, and any other expenses.
  • Participates in job safety meetings as directed.
  • Loads panels with database and initial check out.
  • Performs wiring checkout and assists in automation systems start-ups.
  • Completes final critical adjustments and calibration on automation systems following installation and preliminary set up.
  • Follows all proper clothing and safety requirements.
20% Provides customer service by responding to services calls to build and maintain customer relationships
  • Checks indicated points of trouble, analyzes full requirements of system involved, and checks and tests system components.
  • Diagnoses trouble or defects in sensors, field panels, or control consoles and determines corrective action.
  • Presents a professional image of Building Controls and Services when speaking to customers (all levels).

Experience and Requirements:  
Education: 
  • High School education or equivalent.

Skills and Experience:  

  • Minimum one year of experience in engineering systems installation or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, HVAC and electrical concepts and operations.
  • Proficient in job start-up, checkout, programming, graphics and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and create and interpret graphs.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to evaluate urgency of situation and prioritize tasks.
  • Organized with an attention to detail.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • Valid driver license
  • Technical school certificates  

Other Requirements:  

  • Annual DOT physical
  • May require overtime, evening or weekend work
  • Requires travel to and from job sites, some may be out of town
  • Requires occasional overnight stays

Training and development: 

  • Continuing education annually, as required


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, balancing, twisting, and reaching with hands and arms on a regular basis. Frequently requires the ability to squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 100 pounds on a regular basis, and over 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to talk and listen to others. Uses hands or fingers to handle of feel on a regular basis. Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day. Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

  • This position regularly works primarily at job sites in all types of indoor and outdoor conditions including near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, extreme heat, cold and humidity. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic fumes or chemicals and vibration. Risk of electrical shock is also part of the work environment. Regular noise levels range from moderate to very loud.
  • Most of the job duties require the employee to be working on HVAC equipment in close quarters. Most testing is done with the equipment operating, creating noise and air movement. Many of our customer facilities have unfavorable environmental conditions. Some job duties require the employee to work with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
