Position Summary
Position: Engineering Manager
Company: Chicago Metallic
Location: 1502 N. Central Avenue
**This position is on-site in Humboldt, TN**
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering, maintenance, and tool room functions to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This position oversees the optimization of manufacturing processes, maintenance of production equipment and stamping dies, and execution of capital improvement projects to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and business objectives are achieved. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Engineering Manager provides leadership and supervision to mechanical design engineers, engineering technicians, maintenance personnel, and Tool Room employees.
The Engineering Manager plans and manages capital projects from concept through implementation, including budgeting, resource allocation, project scheduling, vendor coordination, documentation, and communication with stakeholders. The position ensures new equipment and processes are designed, installed, and commissioned in compliance with safety, quality, and operational requirements.
This position serves as the technical leader for industrial controls, automation, and robotic systems. Responsibilities include the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of control systems that enhance equipment safety, production efficiency, and reliability.
The Engineering Manager oversees the design, development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of stamping dies while leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
The position also manages the Tool Room, including scheduling, staffing, training, and daily operations involving manual and CNC machining equipment. The Engineering Manager provides leadership and technical development for technicians responsible for CNC programming, machining, and tooling support.
Additionally, the Engineering Manager is responsible for planning and directing both preventive and corrective maintenance activities for production equipment to maximize equipment uptime and overall equipment effectiveness.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, machinist, and maintenance technicians.
  • Allocate resources effectively, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to support production and project goals.
  • Ensure all existing and new equipment and systems meet OSHA and manufacturer standards for safe operation.
  • Develop and manage Capital Expense and preventative maintenance project budgets, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency targets are met
  • Plan, execute, and lead industrial engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices and innovative solutions
  • Supervise development of new stamping dies to support new product introduction, and troubleshoot existing dies to support production.
  • Supervise Tool Room by scheduling work, and developing the capabilities of the organization.
  • Ensure all equipment operates properly to deliver products and processes to meet Quality standards.
  • Effectively communicate project progress, issues, and recommendations to stakeholders, including upper management and clients
  • Analyze complex engineering problems and develop effective solutions
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, or sufficient years of experience to meet the job duties and responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in industrial engineering, with a focus on process optimization and project management in a metal stamping environment preferred.
  • Ability to understand drawings and schematics to troubleshoot equipment and system.
  • Knowledge of industrial controls including programmable logic controllers (Allen Bradley PLC and Fanuc robots preferred)
  • Knowledge of equipment programable logic control devices.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools, such as CAD (SolidWorks preferred), CNC programming (Mastercam preferred), data analysis tools, and preventative maintenance software (Upkeep preferred).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and six sigma methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
