Job description

The Engineering Manager leads the facility's engineering, maintenance, and project management initiatives. This role manages capital projects from inception to completion, and ensures the highest standards of workplace safety and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, automation and controls knowledge, and hands-on experience in heavy industrial manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Compliance

  • Promote Safety Culture: Maintain, practice, and enforce a zero-injury workplace safety environment across all technical teams.
  • Procedure Development: Partner with the Safety Department to review, revise, and develop robust technical safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Safe Cell Entry.
  • Document Control: Review, update, and formally approve "controlled" technical documentation on an annual basis.
  • VPP Support: Assist and support OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) initiatives to maintain site excellence.

Team Management

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Advise, supervise, and mentor a diverse technical staff spanning various engineering disciplines, IT personnel, Mechanical Technicians, and Electrical Technicians.
  • Resource Allocation: Coordinate daily activities, technical troubleshooting, and professional development for engineering and maintenance teams.

Project Management & Capital Execution

  • Scope Development: Author comprehensive Scope of Work (SOW) documents detailing required tasks, schedules, timelines, drawings, and costing spreadsheets.
  • Vendor & Quote Management: Create highly clear Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil SOW documents that enable external contractors to submit accurate project quotes.
  • Contractor Oversight: Oversee, manage, and audit external contractors anytime work is performed in the facility, covering both large capital projects and general plant modifications.

Engineering & Equipment Commissioning

  • Design & Drafting: Utilize AutoCAD products (Mechanical, Electrical, or Inventor) to read, modify, and develop detailed engineering drawings.
  • Equipment Installation: Supervise complex equipment installations by applying civil, mechanical/millwright, and electrical requirements.
  • System Integration: Direct the integration, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and advanced automated systems.

Production & Controls Support

  • Automation Engineering: Support production and technical staff by troubleshooting and optimizing industrial equipment and advanced automated control systems.
  • Controls Proficiency: Manage and maintain plant technologies, including:
    • Rockwell Automation (ControlLogix Safety Processors & Controls).
    • Variable Frequency Drives (over 150 VFDs ranging from 3HP to 200HP, including PowerFlex and SEW).
    • Beckhoff PC and PLC based control systems.  (TransCAT software)
    • Siemens PCS-7 Control Systems
    • WinCC and Rockwell Factory Talk / Server based HMI deployments.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in an engineering project management role within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing engineers, IT staff, and skilled mechanical/electrical trades.
  • Software Skills: Highly proficient in AutoDESK products (AutoCAD Mechanical/Electrical or Inventor).   Control System software platforms. 
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of industrial automation, VFDs, PLC systems, civil foundations, and mechanical/electrical equipment integration.
