Senior Radar Systems Engineer (Part Time)
LOCATION: Dahlgren, VA
STATUS: Part Time (20-30 Hours per Week)
CLEARANCE: Secret
SALARY: $100-110 hourly
TRAVEL: >10%
Astrion has an immediate opening for a Senior Radar Systems Engineer supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Organization Above Water Sensors located in Dahlgren, VA.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • A Bachelor's degree from an a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Electronics Engineering; or A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following fields of study: Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics
  • Ten (10) System Engineering experience with Surface Navy Radar and Combat Systems
  • DOD5000 System Engineering Technical Review experience and specifically the NAVSEA Technical Review Manual
  • NAVSEA Element and Combat System Certification Experience
  • Experience with integration of radar into the Surface Navy Fire Control Loop
  • Land-based and Ship-board test experience
  • Radar Modeling and Simulation
  • System Requirements decomposition
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following specific knowledge areas (as stated in the technical instruction):
    • Radio frequency hardware design and/or fabrication
    • Demonstrated knowledge of antenna engineering
    • Demonstrated knowledge of signal processing and Electronic Protection (a.k.a. Counter-Counter Measures)
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to perform detailed and complex calculations and knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced radar systems concepts, assess specifications and perform system integration
  • Program/project level engineering experience in major sensor systems
  • Solid technical background as demonstrated by certifiable experience formulating opinions, decisions and ultimate performance of the tasks specified in a contract statement of work
  • Demonstrated capability in packaging and communicating data products for effective communication (i.e. putting together information suitable for a Senior Executive Service/Flag-level Briefing)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • 15 to 20 years System Engineering experience with Surface Navy Radar and Combat Systems
  • 5 years of experience with both Aegis combat system and Ship Self Defense System

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary support will to the AN/SPY-6 radar program with focus on System Engineering Technical Reviews; integration with both Aegis and SSDS (Ship Self Defense System) Combat Systems; Land-based and Ship-board developmental and operational testing, evaluation and analysis; and radar system Certification.
  • Additional tasking may include new capability concept development and requirement definition, traceability and decomposition for the Aegis AN/SPY-1 radar and Future X-Band Radar.
  • Tasking will include review of contractor and government documentation and presentations as well as the development and presentation of radar and combat system integration concepts, plans, and analysis results.
