Job description

Basic Commerce and Industries Inc. (BCI) is a proud participant in the SkillBridge program. We understand the challenges in transitioning from active duty to civilian life. We also provide veterans looking to leverage their service experience with self-paced and hands-on training by subject matter experts in System Safety Engineering. BCI will provide qualified participants with hands-on and self-paced training in Systems Safety Engineering. BCI is seeking self-starters who have the potential to become part of the growing BCI Operations Engineering Safety group. This group provides specific and tailored System of Systems, Warfare System, Combat System, and Element level System Safety Engineering, program acquisition and support to the U.S. Coast Guard, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Naval Air Systems Command.
Job Start Date: Coordinated with service member's command approval
Telework: Not available with this internship
Shift: Days~ 0800- 1600, M-F
Experience Required:
Target Navy Technical Ratings (e.g. FC, GM, etc.) and Operations Specialists, E-6 and above, prior Enlisted Technical Officers (LDO/CWO), and other service equivalents. Naval Officers who have engineering degrees are also candidates. Participants must be able to understand and articulate complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in written form, work productively both independently and in team environments, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks in parallel.
Other Eligibility Factors:
  • Capable of taking initiative in both tasking and education in field.
  • Willing and able to learn new software, skills, and concepts quickly.
  • Must be team-oriented and work well as active member of group.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have DoD security clearance at the secret level or above.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing customer requirements.

Description of Duties:
Participants will work alongside engineers and subject matter experts to support programs such as Future X-band Radar, Cooperative Engagement Capability, SPY-6 Radar, Enterprise Air Surveillance Radar/Air and Missile Defense Radar, Ammunition, Gun Weapon Systems, Ship Self-Defense System, USCG Combat Systems, Battle Management Systems, Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems, and several others. Upon completion of this program, participants will understand the integration of systems safety engineering with systems engineering and the DoD Acquisition process as well as have experience in risk analyses, risk assessments, and hazard/mishap mitigation techniques.
Travel: Travel is not required with this internship
