System Administrator III
ROLE
We need an experienced Systems Administrator at the Naval Dosimetry Center (NDC) in Bethesda, Maryland. NDC serves as the Navy's ionizing radiation dosimetry center of excellence, providing naval commands worldwide with radiation dosimetry processing, consultation services, and comprehensive exposure recordkeeping in support of force health protection and regulatory compliance. In this role, you will keep NDC's server and datacenter infrastructure mission-ready, sustaining system availability, resolving network and hardware failures, enforcing Government-approved security configurations, and managing the full lifecycle of IT systems and equipment in a regulated, no-fail environment. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sustain day-to-day operational readiness of server and datacenter capabilities by ensuring supported server hardware and software services remain available, recoverable, and fit for mission use
  • Identify and resolve network and systems failures affecting service delivery
  • Ensure ongoing performance, capacity, availability, and serviceability of systems resources
  • Report facility and environmental control deficiencies that could impact system operations to the appropriate Government point of contact
  • Implement and sustain server and system security configurations in accordance with Government-approved baselines
  • Support secure operations of enterprise services including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)-related considerations where applicable to supported environments
  • Maintain compliance with information assurance expectations associated with an IAT Level II-designated role
  • Apply lifecycle management principles to system installations, integrations, and fixes
  • Ensure configuration and access management are maintained for supported systems and equipment
  • Evaluate installation and implementation plans for approved efforts
  • Support identification of technology refresh opportunities and the controlled administration and disposal of IT systems, equipment, and services
  • Provide system status reporting and technical summaries for Government leadership

REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field -- required
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an additional four (4) years of directly relevant IT experience with the same technical proficiencies may be substituted on a case-by-case basis with Government approval

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an IT environment
  • Senior-level competence across server and datacenter operations, virtual environments, and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Experience developing database applications using SQL Server and supporting enterprise applications
  • Proficiency in Java, and SQL
  • Ability to apply Concept of Operations and business operations understanding to maintain timelines and support mission outcomes
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, including producing technical summaries for Government leadership
  • Ability to support PKI-related operational requirements as applicable to the supported environment
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
  • Military IT infrastructure experience encompassing engineering, operations, administration, maintenance, and defensive considerations within secured enterprise environments
  • Experience supporting mission systems in regulated Government settings
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical subject-matter expertise and analytical input to support infrastructure modernization and lifecycle planning efforts
  • Proficiency in C# and C++
