Job Summary:

Panelmatic is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Testing Technician, Switchgear to join our Houston, TX team. This role is responsible for performing functional, electrical, and quality testing of low- and medium-voltage switchgear assemblies prior to shipment. The ideal candidate has strong experience in electrical systems, troubleshooting, and interpreting schematics, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and efficiency.

Job Duties:

  • Perform functional and electrical testing of switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and control panels in accordance with engineering specifications, UL standards, and customer requirements
  • Conduct point-to-point wiring checks, insulation resistance (megger) testing, and high-potential (hipot) testing
  • Verify proper operation of protective relays, breakers, control circuits, and instrumentation
  • Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) with internal teams and customers when required
  • Identify, document, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, working closely with engineering and production teams to resolve discrepancies
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with safety standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA) and company procedures
  • Maintain accurate test reports, documentation, and quality records
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to testing processes and quality control

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required (technical certification or associate degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience testing electrical control panels, switchgear, or similar equipment
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams independently
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment (multimeters, megger, hipot testers, relay test sets, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage systems
  • Familiarity with UL 508A, UL 891, or similar standards
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field
  • Experience with protective relays (SEL, ABB, Schweitzer, etc.) and relay testing software
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and basic programming/troubleshooting
  • Prior experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer interaction
  • NFPA 70E certification or formal electrical safety training
  • Experience with medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems
