We have an exciting opportunity at Caterpillar for a Sustainability Communications Manager to deliver strategic internal and external communications that advance our global sustainability efforts. This role is responsible for managing the annual sustainability report from initial concept to final delivery, and driving the integration of sustainability into business communications, including Caterpillar.com, expos, executive messaging, social media, media, and employee communications.

What You Will Do:

  • Own enterprise sustainability communications strategy, aligning messaging to business priorities and evolving stakeholder expectations.
  • Lead digital and content strategy for sustainability, ensuring clear, consistent, and audience-focused messaging across platforms.
  • Partner with leadership (including CSO) to deliver executive-ready communications for internal, customer, dealer, and public forums.
  • Drive employee engagement and maintain a consistent corporate voice through Sustainability Advocates, ERGs, and key internal groups.
  • Ensure alignment of sustainability messaging across business segments and elevate segment-specific stories.
  • Advise on external partnerships, media opportunities, trade shows, and industry engagement to enhance visibility of sustainability initiatives.
  • Support sustainability disclosure strategy by translating complex reporting and regulatory requirements into clear, accessible narratives.
  • Lead benchmarking and continuously source compelling sustainability stories to strengthen executive and external communications.

What You Have:

  • Strategic Planning: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan
  • Sustainability Mindset & Insight: Strong passion for sustainability with the ability to stay current on industry trends, the sustainability profession, and the broader environmental landscape while aligning initiatives to business goals.
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Ability to distill and clearly communicate complex technical concepts using effective presentation tools, summarization, and simplification techniques tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Effective Communication: Strong command of communication principles, tools, and techniques to accurately convey, interpret, and respond to ideas, information, and business needs.
  • Influencing & Strategic Impact: Demonstrated ability to influence decisions across and beyond the organization through strong communication, strategic thinking, and relationship-building. Skilled in analyzing internal and external insights to develop recommendations and drive engagement, particularly in areas related to sustainability.
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across a wide range of individuals and teams, fostering alignment and early engagement on key initiatives.

Education: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience

Summary Pay Range: $128,470.00 - $192,710.00
