Job description

Overview

Mission Statement: The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.

Position Summary: The Survivor Response Advocate performs a variety of duties involved in providing support and advocacy for the rights and protection of survivors of sexual trauma. The SRA will be responsible for ensuring survivors of sexual assault receive immediate, short-term crisis response and stabilization. The SRA will respond to survivors in acute moments after initial disclosures. They will provide emotional support, safety planning, and accompaniment to forensic medical exams and criminal justice system accompaniments. The SRA will be on a rotational on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 emergency response coverage.

Classification: 40 hours/week (Full-time/Non-exempt)

Reports to: Survivor Response Manager

Position Duties

The primary duties of this position are:

  1. Survivor Accompaniment
    1. Respond to hospital and/or law enforcement call-outs during business and after hours, providing support and accompaniment to survivors in medical and/or legal settings.
    2. Provide comprehensive crisis intervention to primary survivors of sexual assault
    3. Ensure survivors' rights are upheld
    4. Educate survivors on the criminal justice process and interpret specific jargon used by other sexual trauma response professionals.
    5. Connecting victims with additional services throughout the community, as needed
    6. Conduct safety plans with all survivors
    7. Assist survivors with accessing transportation and emergency shelter as needed
  2. Survivor Follow Up
    1. Contact survivors within 2 business days of initial accompaniment to provide additional resources and support.
    2. Conduct safety planning with survivors.
    3. Make referrals, either internally to STAR or externally to community partners, based on survivor's needs.
  3. Documentation & File Management
    1. Record all survivor interactions and upload all documents to the organization's centralized database in a timely manner
    2. Ensure that survivor files are complete, well-organized, and up-to-date.
  4. Grant Compliance
    1. Ensure completion of grant deliverables within required timelines.
    2. Assist with the preparation of grant reports and documentation required by funders.
  5. Other Responsibilities
    1. Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system
    2. Actively participate in team meetings, monthly check-ins, and 1-1 meetings with the Survivor Response Manager
    3. Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation.
    4. Attend staff meetings and maintain continuing education requirements.
    5. Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement, as required by Louisiana law.
    6. Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

STAR requires all employees to consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
