SOUTHWEST ISD JOB DESCRIPTION  

Position:  Summer Social Worker 

Location(s): Pupil Services

Job Description: 

Provide social work services to students experiencing homelessness and in need of community resources and referrals.  

  • Assist with new student registration and screen all new student residency forms to determine McKinney-Vento Eligibility.
  • Make contact with families who ended the year coded as McKinney-Vento to determine if they still qualify for services.
  • Ensure students who have established fixed, adequate and regular housing outside of our district have everything they need to enroll in their new district.
  • Ensure that new and returning students who qualify for McKinney-Vento services have received or have appointments to receive all required immunizations.
  • Assist with Book Bus and Community Resource Fair 

Education and Training:

  • Master's of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work
  • Texas Social Worker License required (LMSW)

Knowledge and Skills:

  •  Knowledge and skills for direct and indirect intervention, including individual, group, or family counseling.
  • Consulting with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies; and networking with school programs and community agencies to provide essential services for families and children.
  • Understanding of the knowledge, skills, and processes for effective casework practice.
  • Understanding of the school social work profession, including ethical issues and professional standards.
  • Understanding of child development, psychopathology, social and environmental conditioning, cultural diversity, and family systems.

Duties :

  • Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions.
  • Conduct parent interviews to acquire socio-developmental information.
  • Analyze information gained through record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs.
  • Interview students and parents to discuss issues related to non-attendance/social-emotional needs
  • Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested.
  • Conduct home visits as a method to access the family and provide resources
  • Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refer parents and students to agencies when appropriate.
  • Perform related work as required.
