Summary
The Residential Mentor will play a vital role in supervising and mentoring high school participants in the BGSU Upward Bound Summer Residential Learning Community. Upward Bound, a federally funded college preparatory program, is designed to support first-generation and low-income students from Toledo, Ohio, preparing them for postsecondary education through academic and enrichment activities. The mentor will serve as a positive role model, enforce program policies, and help create a structured, supportive, and engaging residential environment for students.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise participants and ensure adherence to all program policies and procedures.
  • Act as a role model and mentor, fostering a positive and respectful community.
  • Serve as an administrative liaison between students and program administrators.
  • Lead weekly student meetings, providing guidance, updates, and support.
  • Assist with conflict resolution and positively influence participant behavior.
  • Encourage student involvement in enrichment activities by helping to plan and facilitate programs.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and community meetings as directed by program administrators.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have completed at least one academic year of postsecondary education by the start of employment.
  • Preference given to candidates with at least one year of experience living in a residence hall.
  • Must not be enrolled in summer courses during the program period.
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience working with youth or in a mentoring role is a plus.

Additional Information
  • This is a live-in position that requires residential commitment for the entire six-week duration.
  • The work schedule is 28 hours per week, including a combination of scheduled shifts and on-call responsibilities.
  • Background checks are required for employment.
