Job description

DESCRIPTION The City of Shoreview is hiring enthusiastic and passionate individuals to join our park and recreation team as Inclusion Specialists. The Inclusion Specialist supports individuals with disabilities and different ages across a variety of Parks & Recreation programs, services, and activities. This position is not limited to one program area and works collaboratively with staff to help participants successfully engage in recreation opportunities.

SUMMER DISCOVERY - INCLUSION SPECIALIST (May/June - August) DUTIES INCLUDE Provide inclusion support for individuals with disabilities across multiple Parks & Recreation programs, activities, and settings. Provide assistance to meet individual needs, including social, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and physical support when necessary. Implement program adaptations and accommodations to support participant success (e.g., visual schedules, sensory tools, modified activities, communication supports)

Assist with behavior management and positive support strategies in collaboration with program staff. Communicate effectively with program staff, participants, and families to support inclusive participation. Model inclusive practices and promote a welcoming environment for all participants.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Strong passion for working with children, especially those with disabilities or behavioral challenges Ability to lift and/or move 25-50 pounds Must be age 16 or older Desired Qualifications: Experience working with children with diverse needs (e.g., physical, developmental, or emotional disabilities) Knowledge of inclusion strategies and best practices for supporting children with disabilities Enrollment in (or completion of) a degree or certificate program in therapeutic recreation, adaptive recreation, special education, psychology, occupational therapy, or a related field Please note: some specialist staff will swim and/or accompany children into the Community Center's pools as well as off-site locations to supervise and ensure safety. This is based on program needs and the employee's ability

Employees are frequently required to kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk,lift, push, talk, hear and use repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and/or fingers.
