Are you passionate about teaching and learning? Do you enjoy creating personalized learning experiences and making a meaningful impact through virtual instruction? If yes, this position with SmartStart Education is right for you!
The Job:
SmartStart Education seeks an experienced Certified Virtual Summer Teacher to work one-on-one with 3rd through 8th grade students during daytime hours throughout the week (Mon-Fri). The teacher must have an active Indiana teaching certification. The teacher will work remotely with students to strengthen Math and ELA skills, improve performance, and support progress towards educational goals.
The teacher will provide independent instruction to 9 different students, with each student requiring at least 3 teaching sessions throughout the week. Teachers should be flexible and comfortable with a virtual, on-line setting. The teacher will be given the responsibility of tracking attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position.
Job Details:
The teaching position begins as soon as possible and goes through the end of August. The schedule will be flexible and during daytime hours, Monday-Friday. Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews as soon as possible to allow ample time to complete onboarding steps. Failure to do so may result in a position being unavailable.
Pay Rate: $35 per hour
Qualifications:

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. ***Please note that applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.
  • Active teaching certification from the state of Indiana is required.
  • Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring either within a school environment and/or virtual setting, including supporting students with IEPs.
  • Mastery of 3rd through 8th grade Math and ELA concepts and skills, substantiating proficiency in the subject matter.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
  • Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
  • Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
  • Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
  • Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
  • Ability to comfortably navigate a home and/or school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.
