Job description

The Middlebury College Summer Arabic School invites applications for temporary Instructor of Arabic positions. These in-person appointments are available for the summer 2026 session (June 16 - August 14, 2026) and will be based at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, USA. 

The program offers a distinctive eight-week intensive curriculum that integrates cultural immersion with rigorous daily classroom instruction. Instructors will join a dedicated community of educators and learners, participating fully in teaching, residential life, dining, and co-curricular programming. All activities are conducted exclusively in Arabic. Accommodation and meals will be provided for the duration of the appointment. 

Compensation will be determined on an individual basis as discussed with the Language School director.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field, though candidates with DML, ABD, M.A., or B.A. credentials accompanied by substantial teaching experience may be considered. Applicants must demonstrate significant experience teaching Arabic to students in American institutions of higher education. 

The Arabic School seeks exceptional educators with extensive expertise in teaching Arabic as a second or foreign language, including pedagogical approaches to Arab culture and society. Successful candidates will possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a demonstrated record of effective teamwork within instructional settings. The program particularly values candidates who exhibit creativity, adaptability, and openness to innovative teaching methodologies and learning environments. 

Application Instructions - Candidates are required to submit the following materials: 

  • A letter of interest articulating teaching philosophy and anticipated contributions to the Arabic School; 
  • A current curriculum vitae; 
  • Two letters of recommendation; 
  • Complete student evaluations from the most recent academic year; 
  • An official copy of the highest degree earned (with certified English translation if originally issued in another language).

Application Deadline: 

Applications will be reviewed beginning January 12, 2026; however, the position will remain open until filled. This appointment is for the summer 2026 term.
