What is a summer analyst?

A Summer Analyst is a temporary, entry-level position typically offered to undergraduate students during the summer months, primarily at investment banks, consulting firms, and other financial institutions. Summer Analysts work on real projects, assist with research, and support full-time teams, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to the industry. These internships often serve as a pipeline for future full-time analyst roles, allowing both the employer and the intern to assess fit for potential long-term employment.

As a Summer Analyst, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks that provide exposure to your firm's core business areas. Typical responsibilities include conducting market research, analyzing financial data, preparing presentations, and supporting senior analysts or associates on active deals or projects. You'll often collaborate closely with team members across different departments, gaining practical insights and building valuable networks. The fast-paced environment encourages learning by doing and offers regular feedback, which can help you develop skills critical for a long-term career in finance.
