Position Title: Director of Student Health and Safety

Direct Supervisor: Executive Director of Operations

Location: District Wide

Salary Schedule: Director (range $108,045 - $130,819 based on the 26/27 salary schedule, related experience and education)

Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Operations, the Director of Student Health and Safety works cooperatively with district departments, school administrators, and community partners to ensure student health, behavioral safety, and threat management systems support the District's mission and strategic goals. The Director provides executive leadership for the Student Health and Safety Department and ensures procedures, protocols, and regulations are implemented consistently while continuously evaluating systems for effectiveness, compliance, and organizational risk reduction.
The Director oversees Nursing Services, School Resource Officers, Behavior Coaches, School Social Workers, School-Based Therapists, the Engagement Center, Suicide Prevention Protocols, Behavioral Threat Assessment, Adult Threat Assessment, Sexual Misconduct Response, Fire-Setting Assessment, behavioral intervention systems, expulsion programing and processes, and related student support programs.

Essential Functions

• Provide executive leadership for all Student Health and Safety operations across the District.
• Oversee Nursing Services, School Resource Officers, Behavior Coaches, School Social Workers, School-Based Therapists, the Engagement Center, and other assigned personnel.
• Work with district leaders to establish the mission, goals, and strategic plans of assigned programs.
• Ensure alignment between student health and safety programs and the District's strategic plan.
• Provide leadership for Behavioral Threat Assessment, Suicide Prevention Protocols, Adult Threat Assessment, Sexual Misconduct Response, and Fire-Setting Assessment.
• Provide executive oversight for the District's behavior intervention framework, behavioral safety systems, and expulsion process involving significant behavioral concerns.
• Provide consultation regarding suspensions, expulsions, and complex student safety matters.
• Ensure consistency, quality assurance, and legal compliance of behavioral assessments, intervention plans, and threat management processes.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary threat management teams involving students, employees, and community members in collaboration with Human Resources, law enforcement, and community partners.
• Provide oversight for required state reporting related to behavior, discipline, safety incidents, and other assigned compliance reporting.
• Coordinate behavioral crisis response with the Director of Facilities and Security during emergencies and critical incidents.
• Develop administrative procedures, operational standards, and recommend Board policy related to student health and safety.
• Develop departmental goals, performance measures, and continuous improvement strategies.
• Prepare and administer departmental budgets and pursue grant opportunities supporting student health and safety initiatives.
• Provide technical expertise regarding assigned functions.
• Supervise, evaluate, mentor, and develop assigned staff.
• Represent the District with law enforcement, public health, hospitals, mental health providers, juvenile services, emergency management, and other governmental and community organizations.
• Participate on district leadership teams and committees.
• Attend Board of Education meetings and present reports as assigned.
• Keep current on federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices related to student health, school safety, behavioral health, and threat management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, nursing, educational leadership, public health, or a closely related field.
• Completion or eligible to complete the CDE evaluation training.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student services, behavioral health, counseling, psychology, nursing, school safety, or related educational leadership.

Preferred:

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, nursing, educational leadership, public health, or a closely related field.
• Colorado administrative licensure or other leadership credential.
• Experience with supervisory or management responsibilities.
• District-level leadership, crisis management, and grant administration experience.

• Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
• This type of work involves prolonged sitting, walking, and/or standing
• Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job
• Office environment: exposure to computer screens, use of computer keyboard
• Must be able to travel from site to site
