Position: Educational Technician III - TItle I - Shapleigh Memorial School
Reports To: Building Principal or Designee
Hourly Rate: $21.06 $27.14 per hour
Job Goal:
To assist teaching staff in maintaining an effective classroom environment where students can fully benefit from instructional programs and available resources.
Qualifications Desired:
  1. Documentation of at least three (3) years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
  2. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; understanding of the instructional process; and awareness of student needs, including those of students with special needs.
  3. Knowledge of emergency, health, and safety procedures preferred.
  4. Willingness to participate in ongoing in-service training as requested by administration.
  5. Must hold or be eligible for State of Maine Educational Technician III Authorization and CHRC Approval Certificate.
  6. Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information, as required by law.
  7. Demonstrated aptitude and competence for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities. Prior experience in education is desirable but not required.

Performance Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
1. Instructional Support
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning introduced by the teacher/content specialist under direct supervision.
    • Assist in developing strategies to reinforce material based on student needs, interests, and abilities.
    • Support independent study, enrichment, and remedial work assigned by the teacher/content specialist.

2. Non-Instructional Support
  • Administer, score, and record assessments as directed.
  • Assist students with instructional materials and equipment.
  • Provide input to the IEP process and parent conferences when requested.

Computer Lab Responsibilities
  • Provide primary support for computer lab technology, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and software updates.
  • Support network functions for staff and students (user setup, upgrades, maintenance).
  • Provide building-wide technology support as needed.
  • Assist with software support and user assistance.
  • Maintain current hardware and software inventory in collaboration with the Technology Coordinator.
  • Prepare and manage the computer lab budget, including ordering supplies and software.
  • Support mobile lab technology and assist staff with technology integration into curriculum.

3. Instructional Materials Preparation
Classroom
  • Copying, typing, filing, cutting, laminating, bulletin boards, calendars, and book orders.

Library/Media
  • Check materials in and out.
  • Shelve returned items.
  • Process and catalog new materials (books, periodicals, audiovisual).

Special Education
  • Assist with IEP preparation.
  • Prepare instructional materials (copying, filing, laminating, etc.).

4. Classroom & Student Management Support
Classroom
  • Assist with supervision duties including recess, lunch, bus, study hall, and detention.
  • Support student supervision during drills, assemblies, and field trips.
  • Provide escort and assistance services as needed.

Library/Media
  • Assist students in locating materials.
  • Support library/media instruction and activities appropriate to age level.

Special Education
  • Provide escort and assistance services to students as needed.

5. Substitute Support
  • Serve as a primary source of information and assistance to substitute teachers.

6. Instructional Assistance
  • Introduce new learning activities that are pre-planned in collaboration with the classroom teacher or content specialist.

Work Year
School year, as defined by the Educational Technician III Bargaining Agreement.
Terms of Employment: Salary, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.
