JOB DESCRIPTION
LIBRARY AIDE

Contract Period: Academic-year position (10 months), 40 hours/week, non-exempt
Supervisor: Director of Library and Media Services
Qualifications: Experience supervising and supporting high school students, with a genuine enthusiasm for adolescent development and a commitment to creating a supportive, student-focused atmosphere; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent attention to detail; desire to learn detailed library procedures; ability to use computers. Bilingual abilities are a plus. Art/design, crafts, and makerspace experience are a plus. Experience in library sciences, an equivalent associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Profile of a Pinkerton Library Aide
A Pinkerton Library Aide's most important role is to support the library program. Library Aides work directly with students and Pinkerton community members, where they engage and support library users in academic and personal pursuits. Essential Skills and Abilities of a Pinkerton Library Aide
Service
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe space for a diverse group of students utilizing our resources.
  • Supervise the library during assigned blocks and as needed.
  • Assist in supervising the students and library areas to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for the school.
  • Assist in working with students on makerspace projects and hands-on learning activities, including using tools, electronics, and craft supplies.
  • Assist students and their technology needs.
  • Provide reader's advisory service, research assistance, and computer troubleshooting for staff and students.
  • Assist in planning and publicizing library activities with a focus on assisting with promoting diverse programming and resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the director of library and media services.
Organization
  • Assist in all aspects of managing the library materials, including but not limited to daily shelving,
  • circulation, dusting, and other events such as annual inventory.
  • Shelve books and organize book stacks.
  • Assist and support in circulation and record keeping (ILL, overdues, additional material requests).
  • Assist in aspects of book processing, including cataloging, book covering, and weeding projects.
  • Maintain inventory of library supplies, games, crafts, etc.
  • Assist in book repair.
Physical Demands
  • The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
  • Walk within the library and/or media center and between buildings
  • Stand for up to 45 to 80 minutes
  • Lift up to 25 pounds regularly
