Job Summary
Currently, the requirements are a minimum of Level 3 scores on the following tests: Applied Math, Work Place Documents, and Business Writing. Previously, the required tests were Applied Mathematics, Reading, and Writing.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. A minimum of 48 semester hours of credit from an accredited college and/or university or an associate's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  2. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

SUPERVISOR

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Basic knowledge, skills, and ability to operate computer programs and related technology for teachers.
  2. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, administrators and teachers in support of instruction.
  3. Ability to move and lift moderately heavy weights.
  4. Physical ability to move about in the classroom to monitor and supervise students.
JOB GOAL
To assist the teacher in achieving identified instructional objectives and to help students take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Performs tasks related to classroom activities under the supervision of a certified teacher(s).
  2. Works with small groups of students to reinforce and to re-teach, when necessary, material initially introduced by the teacher(s).
  3. Works with individual students who need special attention.
  4. Guides independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the teacher(s).
  5. Provides feedback concerning student progress to the regular classroom teacher(s).
  6. Assists teacher(s) with drill work, reading and storytelling as appropriate.
  7. Assists with checking notebooks, correcting papers, and supervising testing and make-up work.
  8. Assists with preparation of instructional aids, bulletin boards, and other learning displays.
  9. Sets up and stores audio-visual equipment for classroom use.
  10. Assists with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack breaks, clothing routines, etc. as directed.
  11. Supervises small groups who leave the classroom to do library work (under supervision of the librarian).
  12. Helps with supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, and field trips.
  13. Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  14. Maintains a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.
  15. Participates in in-service training provided by the System and the Alabama State Department of Education.
  16. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act and the Board's Salary Schedule - Instructional Aide - Grade I (7 hour) or Grade II (7.5 hours).
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel - GCRK and GCRK-R.
