TITLE: Student Council Advisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Licensure and an employee of the Harrison County Board of Education. A teacher serving as an advisor for the Student Council with priority given to a teacher in the building.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal
SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools
SALARY: Per Harrison County Board of Education extra-curricular assignment schedule
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
  1. Supervise the election of the officers of the council and their duties along with the overall operations of that council.
  2. Develop in students the awareness of positive leadership and decision making techniques in both the school and in the community while instilling important values and ethics.
  3. Develop and maintain the structure of the student council stated in each school's bylaws, with final decisions being that of the advisor and building principal.
  4. Responsible for filing a copy of the student council bylaws with the building principal.
  5. Provide guidance to help students develop and promote program ideas.
  6. Chaperone and file appropriate paperwork for any activities held at the school or any trips taken outside the school. If the advisor is not able to be present, then another staff member or approved parent volunteer approved by the principal is to be is to be designated to attend the event with the students of the council.
  7. Recruit, instruct and supervise adult chaperones.
  8. Coordinate all meetings planned or attended within or outside the school with the school calendar and building principal.
  9. Supervise approved fund raising projects. Ensure that all financial activities are processed through the proper student activity account.
