Key responsibilities
Lead personalized outreach to prospective, applied, and admitted students to support graduate enrollment.
Represent UAF at recruitment events and virtual sessions, and coordinate the planning of these events.
Partner with academic departments to communicate program opportunities and develop outreach strategies.
Job description
Join the UAF Graduate School at an exciting time as we build a dedicated recruitment function to support graduate growth across the university. In this role, you'll be the first point of contact for prospective and admitted students, traveling to recruitment events, hosting information sessions, and building genuine relationships with students, navigating one of the biggest decisions of their academic careers. You'll work closely with academic departments across UAF, gaining a broad view of our graduate programs while directly shaping how students experience the admissions process. This is a chance to build something new - with real ownership over outreach strategy and measurable impact on enrollment outcomes - within a collaborative, mission-driven team supporting Alaska's only doctoral research university.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations. They will have a working knowledge of graduate admissions processes, enrollment timelines, and recruitment best practices, as well as knowledge of FERPA and other regulations related to student records and communication. The candidate should be able to recommend appropriate outreach strategies and next steps for prospective and admitted students using established guidelines, develop and deliver presentations on graduate admissions and recruitment to a variety of audiences, and prepare status reports on outreach and yield activities while recommending adjustments based on results. They will also be responsible for coordinating and assisting with the planning of recruitment events, college fairs, and information sessions. Advanced computer skills, including experience with relational databases and CRM systems such as Banner, Salesforce, and OnBase, are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong customer service and problem-solving skills, the ability to troubleshoot applicant issues and determine appropriate courses of action, effectively manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines, and be willing to travel as needed for recruitment events.
Successful candidates are natural relationship-builders who enjoy talking with people from a wide range of backgrounds and feel comfortable speaking in front of groups, large and small. You'll need to stay organized while juggling many prospective and admitted students at different stages of the process, and you should be comfortable using CRM and data tracking tools to follow up consistently and on time. Because this role represents UAF at events and works closely with academic departments, strong written and verbal communication and a genuine enthusiasm for higher education and student success will serve you well. Prior experience in admissions, recruitment, advising, or customer-facing higher-ed work is a strong plus, but a proactive, people-first mindset matters just as much as a specific rΓ©sumΓ© line.
Two years of experience in one or more of the following: student recruitment or admissions, academic advising, enrollment management, higher education customer service, or a related student-facing role involving outreach, event coordination, or data tracking. Experience using a CRM or student information system (such as Banner, Salesforce, or Onbase) is helpful but not required. Experience working specifically with graduate or adult learners is a plus but not necessary to meet the minimum qualification.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience in student recruitment, admissions, advising, or related higher education work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master's or Doctoral degree
Preferred EXPERIENCE:
β’ Experience specifically in graduate or professional school recruitment or admissions
β’ Experience with Banner, Salesforce, or Onbase CRM systems
β’ Experience developing or executing recruitment communication or yield strategies
β’ Experience working with adult learners, international students, or first-generation graduate students
Required application materials:
β’ A fully completed University of Alaska employment application (applications will only be accepted online through the University of Alaska Job Site).
β’ A current resume.
β’ A cover letter outlining your qualifications and experience.
β’ Three professional references, including current/previous supervisors.
