Director of Student Activities amp; Engagement
Salary: $40,000-$45,000
I. Position Purpose
Lead student engagement beyond the classroom for the purpose of student development,
engagement, retention, and degree completion. Provide living/learning opportunities that include but
are not limited to leadership development, planning/management, community service, and
achievement of career/life goals.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
● Plan, organize, and execute student engagement activities on and off campus (minimum of two
events per month) that meet living-learning goals to promote personal development of
commuter and residential students.
● Coordinate planning of events with campus partners including but not limited to Residential
Housing, Student Center, Well-being Center, Career Center, International Student Services,
and First-Year Experience that support retention efforts.
● Develop program learning outcomes that support the Strategic Completion Plan.
● Participate in institutional effectiveness by measuring annual goals, objectives, and
assessment of learning outcomes.
● Maintain and promote a student activities calendar through the Marketing Department in
collaboration with Events at Hocking and the Student Center.
● Advise the Student Activities Advisory Board to provide leadership, event planning, and
delivery of weekly/monthly student-planned events.
● Work with the Executive Director of Student Engagement and Success in planning, promoting,
and executing large campus events such as New Student Orientation, Student Development
Day, Commencement, etc.
● Provide a wide range of personal, academic, and leadership training to all student
organizations.
● Support other campus event partners, Alumni, Academics, and Athletics with campus activities.
● Provide student organizations with mandatory officer training each semester that covers
Robert’s Rules of Order, utilization of student finances and compliance with fiscal protocol,
fundraising, event planning, and space requests.
● Develop and update an annual required faculty/staff advisor training program.
● Cultivate new clubs, and support all clubs in their pursuit of student engagement in
co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
● Oversee the annual registration of all clubs, maintain lists of members/advisors, provide
assistance with club purchases and event planning.
● Supervise and post club information in the Blackboard clubs portal.
● Serve on the Graduation, Homecoming, All Hocking Learning Day, Sexual Assault Prevention
Response Team and Start Week working groups with responsibility for student event planning
and execution.
Additional Duties
● Manage the campus-wide monitor system in dorms and campus buildings, including oversight
and content management for timely, accurate, and engaging student communications.
● Coordinate and supervise Orientation Leaders, including training, scheduling, and mentorship
to support student transition and retention.
● Recruit, train, and supervise commencement ushers to ensure professional execution of
graduation ceremonies.
● Administer the skill based badging awards and graduation award nominations.
● Integrate AI-driven tools for student engagement, including activity tracking, communication,
and engagement analysis to modernize Student Activities outreach.
● Other duties as assigned
III. Qualifications – Education, Experience and Skills
● Bachelor’s Degree preferred
● 2–4 years of experience in event planning, student activities, leadership, and/or programming
● Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
● Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, and administrative skills
● Understanding of the correlation between student involvement and student retention
● Ability to work some evenings and weekends
● Prior experience and strong skills in a collaborative work environment
