Job Description

The Senior Revenue Accountant performs advanced accounting activities related to revenue recognition, student receivables, financial reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance across multiple entities. This role applies specialized knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ASC 606, and higher education revenue processes to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial information.  The position independently analyzes complex transactions, supports revenue-related systems and integrations, prepares financial and regulatory reporting, and recommends process and control improvements to enhance compliance and reporting accuracy. Working cross-functionally with Accounting, Financial Aid, Student Finance, Operations, and Information Technology teams, the Senior Revenue Accountant resolves complex issues, provides guidance on revenue-related matters, and supports sound financial decision-making.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for student revenue accounting and revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, ASC 606, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze complex revenue transactions, enrollment activity, attendance data, program progression, and funding sources to ensure accurate recognition of earned and unearned revenue.
  • Research and interpret accounting guidance related to revenue recognition and student receivable transactions, providing recommendations and technical support on complex accounting matters.
  • Maintain and oversee revenue-related system configurations, transaction mappings, and integrations between Anthology Student and the ERP system to support data integrity and financial accuracy.
  • Oversee revenue-related processing activities, including transaction review, batch releases, and posting activities, ensuring compliance with established controls, timelines, and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with Financial Aid, Student Finance, Operations, and Information Technology teams to investigate, resolve, and prevent complex revenue and student accounting discrepancies.
  • Develop, monitor, and enhance revenue accounting processes, internal controls, and system workflows to improve efficiency, compliance, and reporting accuracy.
  • Perform detailed analyses of accounts receivable portfolios and bad debt reserves, recommending adjustments based on collection trends, historical performance, and institutional risk factors.
  • Prepare and review regulatory calculations, financial schedules, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal control standards.
  • Oversee daily cash reconciliation activities, intercompany funding transactions, and related treasury accounting processes, researching and resolving discrepancies independently.
  • Lead revenue accounting support for financial statement audits and regulatory examinations, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Provide guidance, training, and technical support to accounting staff and cross-functional stakeholders regarding revenue accounting policies, procedures, and system processes.
  • Identify emerging accounting, regulatory, and operational risks within the revenue cycle and recommend solutions to strengthen controls, mitigate risk, and support effective financial reporting.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including revenue recognition, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and audit support; higher education or student financial services experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting higher education, postsecondary education, or student financial services accounting functions preferred.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and integrated business applications; NetSuite and Anthology Student experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to analyze, reconcile, and validate financial data.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions, provide guidance on financial matters, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
