Job description

Job Title: L1 Fiber Technician - Fiber Pulling, Porting & Dressing
Contract Duration:4 - 6 Months
Work Location: Fort Wayne, IN
Pay rate: $ 20-25/hr
Fiber Pulling
What cable types and counts? (12, 24, 48, 144, 288, 864 strands, etc.) Small count rack to rack fiber and/or single strand fiber.
Are pathways already installed (tray, conduit, innerduct)? Yes all pathways we will be working in are installed.
Fiber Porting / Termination
Are we landing pre-terminated trunks, installing cassettes, etc.? All fiber being run is preterm fiber. No large count trunk fiber. No cassettes.
Who performs testing after porting? No testing all fiber is tested from manufacturer
Fiber Dressing
What standard are you expecting (customer-specific, ANSI/TIA, BICSI)? This will be customer specific.
Safe to say dressing includes Velcro replacement, labeling, and slack management? All of the above
Job Summary
We are looking for an L1 Fiber Technician to support fiber installation activities, including fiber pulling, porting, routing, and cable dressing. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with fiber optic cabling in data centers, telecom environments, or structured cabling projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fiber optic cable pulling, routing, and installation according to project specifications.
  • Assist with porting and connecting fiber cables to equipment, patch panels, and fiber distribution systems.
  • Perform proper fiber cable dressing, bundling, labeling, and routing.
  • Maintain appropriate bend radius and cable management standards.
  • Install and organize fiber within racks, cabinets, cable trays, and pathways.
  • Read basic fiber/cabling layouts, rack elevations, and work instructions.
  • Identify and report damaged cables, installation issues, or pathway obstructions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all site safety requirements and PPE guidelines.
  • Work closely with senior technicians and project supervisors to complete installations on schedule.
  • Perform basic visual inspection and continuity checks as required.

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year of experience in fiber optic, structured cabling, telecom, or data center installation preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of fiber optic cabling and cable management.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber pulling, routing, porting, and dressing preferred.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and basic cable installation equipment.
  • Ability to follow drawings, labeling schemes, and installation instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain neat, professional cable installations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and position cable and installation materials.
Ability to work in data centers, telecom facilities, and/or construction environments.
