We are looking for a dependable, skilled, and service-minded Facilities & Custodial Technician to help maintain our facilities, grounds, and equipment. This position supports safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environments for children, families, and staff.

Position Details

Reports To: Center Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full-time, full-year, 35hrs/week

Position Summary

The Facilities & Custodial Technician is responsible for maintaining Tri-County Head Start facilities, grounds, equipment, and outdoor learning environments. This position performs custodial services, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, groundskeeping, landscaping, safety inspections, and facility support functions for assigned centers.

This role is an important part of the TCHS team. By keeping our buildings safe, clean, and well-cared-for, the Facilities & Grounds Technician helps create the kind of environment where children feel secure, families feel welcome, and staff are supported in doing their best work.

Key Responsibilities

The Facilities & Custodial Technician will:

  • Maintain clean, safe, and professional indoor spaces, including classrooms, offices, kitchens, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Perform routine custodial services, sanitation, deep cleaning, and daily supply restocking.
  • Complete general building maintenance, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain grounds, landscaped areas, playgrounds, parking areas, sidewalks, and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Support snow and ice removal to ensure safe access to facilities during winter weather.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly routine safety checks and assist with facility inspections, compliance activities, and required documentation.
  • Identify facility needs, submit and update work orders, and support timely resolution of maintenance concerns.
  • Attend weekly Facility Meeting with CEO, CFO, Program Director, and IT Director.
  • Coordinate with CFO and IT Director to schedule vendors, contractors, service appointments, facility projects, and repairs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and agency vehicles in a safe and organized manner.
  • Follow all health, safety, OSHA, licensing, Head Start, and agency procedures.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Colorado Driverโ€™s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass all required criminal background checks.
  • Ability to read and understand safety instructions, SDS sheets, maintenance manuals, work orders, and basic written procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with staff, families, vendors, and community partners.
Preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in facility maintenance, custodial services, groundskeeping, construction, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Building maintenance
    • Custodial procedures
    • Landscaping and groundskeeping
    • Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting repairs
    • Safe operation of maintenance equipment, landscaping equipment, power tools, and agency vehicles
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, and pull.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely operate maintenance equipment, power tools, landscaping equipment, snow removal equipment, and agency vehicles.
  • Perform physical work for extended periods of time.
