What kind of jobs in media bring in $150,000 a year?

Strategy Managers in media companies or related roles such as senior marketing or digital strategy directors can earn $150,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills in data analysis, and leadership responsibilities. High-level positions often require strong strategic planning, industry knowledge, and sometimes advanced certifications or degrees.

What does a strategy manager do?

A strategy manager develops and implements long-term plans to help organizations achieve their goals. They analyze market trends, assess internal capabilities, and collaborate with leadership to identify growth opportunities, often using tools like SWOT analysis and strategic frameworks. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills are essential for success in this role.

What Is a Strategy Manager?

A strategy manager oversees an organization’s progress toward departmental goals. As a strategy manager, you work closely with senior-level administrators to determine how best to reach the company’s objectives. Job duties vary, depending on the industry and the type of company, but they typically include collecting and analyzing data, researching trends, and mapping out plans to reach your goals. You may also train employees on how to implement your strategies more efficiently. Strategy managers typically work within a specific department of a large company, such as marketing, sales, or distribution. For example, a sales strategy manager serves as a liaison between upper management and the sales team, networks with potential clients and other business contacts, and trains the sales department on how to increase sales.

The main difference between a Strategy Manager and a Business Analyst lies in their focus and scope. Strategy Managers develop long-term plans and oversee strategic initiatives, while Business Analysts analyze business processes and support project implementation. Strategy Managers typically operate at a higher strategic level, whereas Business Analysts focus on specific projects and operational improvements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Strategy Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Strategy Manager, you need strong analytical skills, business acumen, and experience in strategic planning, often supported by a degree in business, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools (such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI), financial modeling, and consulting frameworks is commonly required, and an MBA or similar certification is advantageous. Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills help drive alignment and effective execution of strategic initiatives. These skills are essential for guiding organizations toward long-term goals, making informed decisions, and maintaining a competitive edge.

Is strategy a high paying job?

Strategy managers typically earn above-average salaries compared to many other roles, with compensation often reflecting experience, industry, and company size. They usually have strong analytical skills and may hold advanced degrees or certifications, which can influence earning potential.

How does a Strategy Manager typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Strategy Managers work closely with a variety of departments—including finance, marketing, operations, and executive leadership—to ensure organizational goals are aligned and strategic initiatives are executed effectively. They often facilitate cross-functional meetings, gather input from diverse stakeholders, and synthesize data to inform decision-making. This collaborative environment helps Strategy Managers identify potential challenges early and promotes buy-in for new initiatives across the company. Success in the role often depends on strong communication and relationship-building skills.

How much does a strategy manager earn?

A strategy manager's salary typically ranges from $80,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, industry, and location. Senior strategy managers or those in large corporations can earn higher compensation, often including bonuses and benefits.

This role will be working at our Clipwire Games studio.

Clipwire Games is one of Canada's top grossing mobile game developers, and the creator of Monopoly: Bingo!, TPIR: Bingo! and Bingo Story. Founded in Toronto over 10 years ago, we've had tremendous success and are poised for another decade of record growth. Our studio is built on strong values, work ethic, and intelligent data driven growth. We work hard, have fun, innovate, and level-up every day.

To work at Clipwire means becoming part of our future right now. We have reached our current growth rate because we support, promote, and develop our team so that they can make great games. Come find out what all the buzz is about!

Role Overview

Clipwire Games is growing and looking for a Creative Strategy Manager to lead the creative engine behind our user acquisition, working with a team of motion designers who turn data, market insight, and player understanding into high-performing ad creative.

This role is ideal for a hands-on creative leader who's passionate about mobile games and free-to-play experiences, and who thrives where craft meets performance. You'll direct a team of motion designers, both internal and external partners, as well as third party vendors. You'll set the creative direction for our UA output, and work in close partnership with our UA and data science teams to make sure every concept is grounded in what our data, our competitors, and the wider market are telling us.

You bring strong creative judgement, a growth mindset, and the leadership to get the best work out of a team while staying close to the craft. You're also someone who actively uses AI tools in your day-to-day work, championing their use to push the volume, quality, and consistency of creative further than traditional pipelines allow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct a team of motion designers, specifying creative direction, reviewing deliverables, synthesizing feedback from the product team, and managing delivery to the UA Growth Manager.
  • Own the creative direction and output of our UA creative including video ads, playables, and statics across channels such as AppLovin, Google, and Unity
  • Set creative strategy grounded in competitor analysis, performance data, market trends, and a deep understanding of our target audience, product, and IP
  • Champion AI-assisted creative tools and embed them into the pipeline to push quality, consistency, and efficiency
  • Build and run a high-velocity creative pipeline that can produce, test, and iterate at volume and speed
  • Define and run a structured creative testing programme: form hypotheses, ship variants, read results with the UA team, and feed learnings back into the next round
  • Partner with UA and data science to tie creative performance to spend efficiency, ROAS, and LTV
  • Research and benchmark competitor creative and market trends, turning them into actionable creative direction
  • Establish creative operations such as briefs, asset specs, version control, and vendor/freelancer management to keep quality high as volume scales
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 6+ years in performance / UA creative or motion design, including experience leading or managing a creative team
  • A proven track record shipping winning, growth-oriented ad creative for mobile or free-to-play games
  • Strong creative judgement with a performance mindset. You know what drives installs, and you can prove it with data
  • Hands-on command of channel-specific creative norms (multi-network asset diversity including playables and HTML5)
  • Comfortable interpreting UA data and KPIs (CTR, CPI, ROAS, LTV) to steer creative decisions
  • Experience researching competitor creative and translating market insight into direction
  • Process-driven approach, with the ability to create processes that make ideation, development, and delivery the most efficient and optimized
  • Hands-on experience with AI creative tools (e.g. Scenario, Midjourney, Flux, Claude) and a clear point of view on integrating them into production
  • Familiarity with our audience of casual and social-casino players is a strong asset
