Job Description
As a member of our Segment Strategy team, you'll play a key role in shaping how Wellmark competes and grows in our core market segments. You will serve as a central hub for your assigned segment, partnering closely with Product, Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence, Marketing & Communications, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to translate market insights, customer needs, and competitive trends into clear segment strategies and go-to-market plans. This means connecting dots between data and real-world decisions, ensuring our segment strategy is aligned with corporate objectives and is clearly communicated to stakeholders at all levels.
The ideal candidate is a curious, analytical, business-minded professional skilled at turning data into clear insights and recommendations. You have experience in developing strategies through analysis and cross functional partnerships, with a talent for communicating complex ideas to various audiences. Comfortable with ambiguity, you're eager to learn about industry dynamics, able to influence without authority, and build trust with your peers and leaders. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as is a drive to support Wellmark's growth and improve member experience.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience developing insights and strategy, and/or analyzing and translating data into actionable solutions including a strong understanding of strategic planning, profitability, financial metrics, market and/or external influences.
  • Demonstrates an exceptional acumen for understanding and translating complex data, concepts, and financial metrics into insights for varied audiences.
  • Strong ability to evaluate workflows and support successful alignments with product strategy and implementation. Strong abilities in developing deep understanding of segments, creating segment insights and working closely with partners in insights and competitive intelligence.
  • Keen abilities and desire in leading through influence while fostering relationships with partners at all levels in the organization - listener, teacher, and connector. Ability to lead strategic market reviews and synthesize competitive intelligence and analysis.
  • Strong abilities to support in the building and implementing of strategic initiatives that achieve bottom-line results. Ability to manage complex projects that require partnerships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and curiosity to creatively solve complex problems
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills, including presentation development and delivery. Able to convey complex business implications with influence and provide recommendations to varying audiences, including senior leadership.

Additional Information
a. Responsible for the development, management, and execution of assigned segment competitive strategy. As an influential leader in the segment, works with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to ensure alignment of Wellmark's competitive strategy across divisions.
b. Ensure alignment of segment strategy with corporate goals, and objectives and key results (OKRs), in particular, meeting and representing market penetration goals for assigned segment(s). Represent robust competitive and market insight to set and promote annual segment and division priorities.
c. Develop, recommend, manage, and implement distribution, pricing, promotion, and messaging strategies for assigned segments in partnership with other internal business teams.
d. Develop business cases and lead initial discovery in the formulation of segment and division priorities, including major, cross-functional initiatives. Oversee aspects of identifying, obtaining approval, and implementing strategic priorities involving new potential business partnerships, new product offerings, or lines of business.
e. Partner with cross-functional teams to develop annual segment go-to market plans. Ensure Wellmark's competitive priorities are represented in the process and that customer needs are being met.
f. Accountable for monitoring performance and return on investment for assigned segment(s) and for providing insights for any necessary changes in direction. Responsible for translating complex data and information into actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
g. Provide quarterly dashboard reports of critical segment metrics for leaders as an indicator of overall performance and direction. Partner in the development of the annual enrollment forecasting process.
h. As part of the leading representation of Wellmark's outside-in perspective, leverage a keen, critical sense of curiosity and ability to understand and represent the dynamic health insurance industry to shape Wellmark's competitive future.
