Job description

The Corporate Strategy & Planning team serves as TIAA's internal strategy function, comprising three core capabilities: Strategic Consulting, Competitive Intelligence, and Strategic Planning. The Strategic Consulting Associate role supports enterprise-wide strategic initiatives across all of TIAA's businesses - including retirement, insurance, wealth, and asset management/Nuveen - as well as key functional areas such as marketing and technology. Working with limited oversight, this role mirrors the responsibilities of an associate consultant at a top-tier strategy firm, leading workstreams on high-impact projects that shape TIAA's strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Partners with business leaders across TIAA's business units and functional areas to address enterprise-wide and business-specific strategic challenges

Leads consulting project workstreams end-to-end, managing timelines, coordinating across stakeholders, and delivering high-quality outputs independently

Structures and solves complex business problems across diverse strategic topics, including growth strategy, operating model design, market positioning, and organizational effectiveness

Conducts rigorous analysis, including market sizing, competitive benchmarking, financial modeling, interview synthesizing, and scenario planning, to support strategic recommendations

Manages through ambiguity, working effectively with incomplete information and incorporating risk assessment into decision-making

Develops executive-ready materials that synthesize complex analyses into clear, actionable insights tailored to senior audiences including the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees

Builds trusted relationships with engagement managers and business partners, and establishes credibility as a reliable strategic resource

Mentors junior team members and contributes to continuous improvement of team capabilities and team infrastructure

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience Required

MBA preferred Work Experience 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred Prior experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, or related analytical roles strongly preferred

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of work experience in leading strategic workstreams at a consulting firm or in a corporate strategy function. Must have independently managed multiple end-to-end strategy consulting workstreams from problem structuring to final delivery.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building financial models, conducting market sizing exercises, and delivering competitive benchmarking reports.
  • Proven track record of developing and presenting materials to C-suite or Board-level audiences. Measurable by frequency and seniority of stakeholder interactions in prior roles.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
