Job description

Position Summary

The Foundry Operations Manager reports to the President, and is responsible for direction, strategy, planning and execution for the company’s manufacturing operations. They are responsible for the company’s performance in safety, product quality, delivery, inventory management and productivity performance.

Specific Duties:

  • Work to establish management practices throughout assigned areas which include all employees’ positive involvement with opportunity for constructive input and action.
  • Develop and manage budgeting and budget execution with a focus on product costs and margins.
  • Improve manpower utilization within existing departments and establish schedules that allow for maximum efficiencies.
  • Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis, depending on the need. Encourage the use of new techniques and focus on fact based problem solving.
  • Ensure that, as the company grows, manufacturing capabilities to meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for cost, quality and responsiveness.
  • Interacts with all manufacturing and support departments along with outside vendors regarding product and equipment.
  • Meets customer specifications regarding quality and delivery requirements.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications, from melting through finishing operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Establishes operational standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and on-time delivery
  • Lead and manage all production control, manufacturing, maintenance and shipping/receiving activities associated with the manufacturing process.
  • Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
  • Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest production and management concepts. Implement lean production practices. Work as a key team member to develop and train foundry employees.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management responsibilities include developing and implementing policies and procedures, formulating manufacturing operations strategies, building and mentoring manufacturing employees and driving business results.
  • This includes ensuring the highest quality equipment, materials and production standards, overseeing and maintaining manufacturing budgets and working with engineers and quality staff to manufacture quality products that will meet customers' expectations in the most cost-effective manner

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using process, quality and production improvement methodologies, the Foundry Operations Manager leads the development, planning, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods for new or existing products and technologies. This includes outgoing quality, safety and efficiency improvements for all manufactured operations and compliance with safety, state and federal regulations.
  • Other qualifications include experience in a foundry or fabrication manufacturing environment, as well as strong knowledge of industry and management methodologies’

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 5+ years related foundry or manufacturing management experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in Casting operations, Foundry Operations.
  • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities along with excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential.
  • Success taking new parts into production with fast time-to-market and cost-sensitivity requirements.
  • Self-starter and a team player that will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience in a low to medium volume manufacturing environment with small lot sizes and multiple change overs.
