Job description

Job Summary

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a commodity strategy that supports and enhances the company's material objectives including optimizing cost, quality, and continuity of supply (COS) for Mechanical commodities such as tape, adhesive, plastic, injection molding, and pouches. Evaluates supply base and technologies to keep Engineering and Operations aware of market trends and changes. Develops and executes commodity strategies for key commodities. Develops a clear understanding of the business and technical aspects of the internal Supply Chain procurement/processing/master scheduling functions to organize, develop and manage lean material flow to successfully and efficiently deliver materials to production. Provides key leadership involving strategy creation, improvement of core processes, and managing projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead global strategic commodity management for assigned categories to deliver key performance indicators, including savings, supplier rationalization, low-cost region sourcing, risk management, spend under agreement, supplier performance, etc.

  • Participate and lead as a materials team member in new process and product development.

  • Plan, develop and implement tailored development plans for strategic supplier and potential suppliers.

  • Responsible for supporting and improving vendor management processes and for working closely with contract manufacturers.

  • Lead recovery plans and execution when global supply falls short of demand.

  • Engage and support site procurement teams and other key stakeholders to qualify preferred suppliers and migrate spend from incumbent, non-preferred suppliers.

  • Conduct supplier business reviews with preferred suppliers to ensure both parties meet obligations under the terms of agreement, including performance standards and continuous improvement goals.

  • Drive and lead continuous improvements and efficiencies within the supply chain and ensure full support throughout the service phase of the product lifecycle.

  • Provide regular feedback to promote strengths and help identify areas for improvement within the supply chain.

  • Collaborate with buyer/planners to efficiently deliver products to our customers, overseeing and managing all related projects to ensure its success.

  • Identify means to improve efficiencies and speed of routine work, leading efforts to implement positive change.

  • May oversee direct reports and assigned team members, providing leadership, guidance, and training as needed.

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in Strategic Procurement and Commodity Management with proven experience in developing and executing Mechanical Category Strategies and Vendor Management process for spend up to $60 million.

  • Deep understanding of complex engineering quality issues caused by material or manufacturing processes and related solutions.

  • Purchasing/ERP/Agile experience and demonstrated results in materials shortage management and inventory control.

  • Results oriented, metrics driven leader with a root cause, permanent and continuous improvement approach.

  • Demonstrated team player committed to working in a quality environment.

  • Superior analytical and computer skills with experience utilizing analytical tools (MS Access and SQL Server preferred) and databases along with an in-depth understanding of manufacturing (MPS/MRP).

  • Advanced skills in using Digital Strategic procurement systems; Spend Analysis, Sourcing, Contract Management, P2P.

  • Demonstrated discretionary professional development in Procurement and Category Management field; CSCP, CPSM, CIPS.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal customers based on trust and shine under pressure while dealing with changing priorities and timeline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mandarin Chinese or Spanish language skills preferred.

  • Proven cost reduction track record and project management skills preferred.

  • Five years of related management experience preferred.

Education

BS or BA degree in Engineering or Business; MBA preferred.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000 plus benefits.  Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience. 

This position also qualifies for up to 10% annual bonus based on Company, department, and individual performance.

Physical requirements/Work Environment 

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking.  Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required.  May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.  Some local travel is necessary, so the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver's license is required. Further, some business travel (domestic and international) may be required.
