Role Summary

The Purchasing Lead is responsible for partnering with the Purchasing Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the buyer organization in Singapore. The Lead will have responsibility to work with a team of buyers to achieve the company's objectives in terms of cost, quality, and delivery of goods and services. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiation, and the ability to work in a highly functional and global team environment. The Purchasing Lead will collaborate with the buyers to ensure that all purchase requisitions are worked in a timely efficient manner and worked deeply for optimal quote outcome.


Essential Functions
  • Manage day-to-day operational performance of the buyers, including but not limited to:

o Workload balancing

o Quote competitiveness

o Negotiation strategy

o On time delivery

o Closure rate

o Decommit recovery

o Backlog management

o Expedite management

  • The lead will track buyer performance across all measured metrics and work with the Manager to put training and coaching programs in place to improve buyer performance and output.
  • Provide day-to-day assistance to buyers on requisitions and negotiation strategy and approaches.
  • Manage team membersโ€™ workload and make adjustments as necessary. Collaborate with sales leaders on sales and customer coverage from the buyer team.
  • Monitor buyersโ€™ requisitions, make sure covered key vendors and not miss any good offer which list in relative website.
  • Work closely with sales team on key opportunities to ensure optimal sourcing effectiveness.
  • Continue to develop and implement purchasing strategies and processes to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Collaborate with Global Commodity Managers on short term vs. long term sourcing approaches and supplier portfolios.
  • Act as a point of escalation for the buyers to ensure that have support for internal or external issues that need management engagement.
  • Regularly meet with suppliers to understand whatโ€™s happening in the electrical component market; gather information to support on-going market intelligence and reporting efforts.


Core Competencies

  • 5-10 yearsโ€™ experience sourcing electrical components in the distribution and broker markets
  • Minimum 2 yearsโ€™ experience managing people / direct reports
  • Breadth of experience across all electrical component categories: ICs, passives, connectors, etc.
  • Established network of distributors, specialists and part brokers in southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read, write correspondence, and communicate with all members of the organizations, customers, and vendors (internal and external) in a clear, easily understood manner in English
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to coach, motivate, and lead others
  • Able to work under pressure and effectively manage stress
