Description
The Division of Operations and Maintenance within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Physical Plant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, have a positive attitude, and compassion for both animals and people. The Assistant Director will establish preventive maintenance program and ensure safe and efficient operations of building equipment, including boilers, HVAC systems & controls, life safety systems, and laboratory air & vacuum systems. They will ensure that animal housing, clinical, and high containment spaces are maintained according to established standards and regulatory requirements. They will also manage contracts with outside vendors and supervise assigned staff and teams. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for building operations and maintenance, receiving and distribution of deliveries, shuttle services and vehicle operations, and maintenance within the Emory National Primate Research Center's Physical Plant unit.
  • Establishes preventive maintenance program and ensures safe and efficient operations of building equipment including boilers, HVAC systems and controls, life safety systems, and vehicles.
  • Supervises and manages assigned staff and teams.
  • Assumes leadership of the physical plant unit in the absence of the Director.
  • Maintains all facilities in accordance with OSHA standards and other federal and state guidelines and mandates.
  • On call 24/7.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, architecture, or engineering and seven years general building/facilities maintenance experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Must clear federal background screening for select agent work.
  • Must pass medical evaluation and clearance to wear a respirator.
  • Must be evaluated for immunization requirements.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Substantial knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office, laboratory, animal housing, and biosafety level 3 containment facilities.
  • Work schedule to be discussed during interview.
