Job description

Department: Raycraft

Reports To: Plant Manager

Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)

Monday - Thursday (12pm-10:30pm)


Job Summary:

Responsible for safely and efficiently handling incoming and outgoing steel materials, ensuring proper documentation, organization, and quality control. This role supports shipping, receiving, production, and storage areas by loading and unloading trucks, preparing shipments,


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Load and unload trucks, including vans and flatbeds, using forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Conduct a visual check of incoming material to verify accuracy against paperwork and inspect for quality issues such as rust, gouges, or other defects.
  • Email receiving paperwork to Order Management for entry into Plex.
  • Correctly tag material and log information into the receiving system.
  • Manage outdoor bays by transporting and organizing material and bins, maintaining a safe and efficient outdoor storage layout.
  • Consolidate and relocate materials to maximize space and improve workflow.
  • Prepare shipments by identifying the correct material and bins, scanning into Plex, and verifying order quantities.
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency to allow shippers to be loaded and dispatched quickly.
  • Load material onto saw tables by staging bundles, moving them into position, and place material onto the correct saw.
  • Remove completed FG (finished goods) bins from saws, relocate them to the proper storage area, and replace them with empty bins.
  • Organize FG bins to maintain smooth coordination between production and shipping; communicate with saw operators to ensure finished goods and raw bundles are accessible when needed.
  • Assist in the saw shop with cleanup, collecting bar ends and trim cuts, and monitoring saw operations when the operator must step away.
  • Operate advanced Plex functions including bundle splitting, purchase order lookups, pick lists, and managing dispatch schedules.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely, including advanced functions such as stacking bundles and moving material from outdoor storage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support shipping, receiving, and production flow.


Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Warehouse experience required.
  • General computer experience required.
  • Fork truck and overhead crane experience required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong general computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and accurately use tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures.


Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to stand for an entire shift to perform job functions.
  • Excessive walking throughout the production facility during entire shift to locate steel and perform functions at both bays.
  • Physical activity such as bending, reaching, and twisting while pushing and pulling bars of steel or securing bundles of steel.
  • Ability to safely ascend and descend steps or ladders to access trucks to perform loading and unloading functions and to access and operate fork trucks.
  • Ability to work atop uneven surfaces to move and secure bundles of steel.
  • Ability to frequently lift 15-50 pounds of steel bars repeatedly and occasionally lift up-to 80 pounds of steel bars.
  • Constant exposure to machinery and loud noises.
