Job description

Morgan Steel, LLC is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to set up, operate, and maintain CNC machining equipment used in the production of custom steel components and fabricated parts. The CNC Machinist will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, selecting tooling, performing machine setups, monitoring production quality, and ensuring parts are manufactured to specification while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, machining centers, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications.
  • Load materials and fixtures into machines and verify proper alignment.
  • Select and install tooling required for machining operations.
  • Adjust machine offsets, feeds, speeds, and tool paths as needed.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
  • Utilize calipers, micrometers, indicators, tape measures, and gauges to verify part dimensions.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve cycle times and efficiency.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Identify and report equipment issues, tooling concerns, and quality problems.
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area utilizing 5S principles.
  • Assist with training new machinists and operators as assigned.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the machining department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills for production reporting and work instructions.

Preferred

  • Experience with Haas CNC equipment.
  • Experience in a job shop or custom manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of G-Code and CNC programming.
  • Experience machining steel, aluminum, and stainless materials.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
